Public call for organ donations

Today marks the seventh World Kidney Day, the theme of which this year is "Donate-- Kidneys for Life --Receive". Public support for organ donation is vital so that more patients with kidney failures can have the opportunity to receive kidney transplants and more lives can be saved.

According to Bao Beiyan, director of Nephrology Division in No.2 Yinzhou Hospital, chronic kidney disease is proved highly prevalent in China, with one patient out of ten people. A large number of patients with chronic kidney disease worsen into uremia. There are more than two million uremic patients in China now, and chronic kidney failure has become one of the leading causes for death. In Ningbo, the number of patients with chronic kidney disease is on the rise. Statistics show that in 2011 Nephrology division in No.2 Yinzhou Hospital accepted 21,829 outpatients, an increase of 18% over 2010.

Although hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis are able to renew the lives of patients, they suffer great pains from long-term dialysis. Usually, a patient needs to receive 4-5 hour hemodialysis two or three times a week, which is both time-consuming and costly for their families. There are still a lot of inconvenience although some patients are able to conduct self-operation at home under professional guidance.

Kidney transplant is proved the most successful one among all organ transplants. A uremic patient can be cured after transplantation and lead a normal family life again. Yao Xuping, head of No.2 Yinzhou Hospital, said kidney transplant is a relatively mature technology. They have carried out 1020 kidney operations since the first kidney transplant in 1992, the success rate being 99%.

However, due to the severe shortage of human organs in China, every year less than one percent of uremic patients are fortunate enough to receive kidney transplants. Since the implementation of the Human Organ Transplantation Regulation in 2007, organ donation becomes the only source of organ transplants in China.

In December 2011, Ningbo became the pilot city of the human organ donation. A year later, Sun Yonghai from Northeast China became the first donor by donating his liver, two kidneys, and cornea, bringing new life to five people. His noble act has inspired more citizens to join the voluntary organ donation. According to the Ningbo Red Cross, the number of organ donators has risen from 32 in December 2011 to the current 169, with three become actual organ donors. However, with hundreds of thousands of uremic patients who are waiting for kidney transplants, organ donators are still in desperate need.

Foreign Lei Feng in Ningbo

On March 4, a newspaper in Zhejiang Province published a report titled "foreign Lei Feng who support 15 poor children in China ". The story is about a foreign professor who funded 15 needy students within a few years. The professor's good deeds have won him wide respect and admiration.

Days ago, many readers called the newspaper or left messages on their microblogs to express their admiration to Professor Craig Fleming from University of Nottingham in Ningbo, and their willingness to help him in his charity work. Yin Xiaoguo, a high school teacher in Fenghua, was among the first callers. Having been a teacher for 25 years, Mr. Yin is also a charity volunteer who has funded three university students and two pupils.

At 9:00 on the 7th, Mr. Yin had a brief telephone conversation with the personal assistant of Professor Fleming. According to the assistant, Professor Fleming plans to support another 10 needy girls in Ningbo. Mr. Yin has promised to offer help by finding the needy children and emailing the information of these children to Professor Fleming.

The story of Professor Fleming, which has been reprinted by both Ningbo Daily News (Sina microblogging) and the Ningbo Daily network (www.nbrb.com.cn,), has immediately aroused great concern of among the netizens.

Spring tea available in the market

On March 7, despite the rainy weather, people could still feel the warm atmosphere in greenhouses in Fuquanshan tea plantation located in Ningbo East Lake tourist resort, where tea-picking workers were busy picking the tender buds on the tea tree.

The Fuquanshan tea plantation is the first profit maker in this spring. Due to the rainy and cold weather this year, the spring tea grown in open farmland will arrive on markets late than usual. With a total investment of 60 million yuan, the plantation built as an agricultural technology demonstration park last year is a modern steel frame greenhouse with 5,000 square meters in area. The harvest in the greenhouse comes more than 10 days earlier than the ordinary tea plantations.

The head of the plantation said, “we only picked 15 kilograms of fresh leaves yesterday, which means we can get 5 kg fried tea. It is known that tea grown in greenhouse tastes not as good as those grown in open farm in flavor, so the price is a little bit lower. However, being so rare in market, the tea can still be priced as high as 4,000 yuan per kilogram.

Govt employees participate in voluntary tree-planting yesterday

On the morning of March 6, the government employees in charge of publicity, construction and agriculture, together with PLA troops stationed in Ningbo, participated in a voluntary tree-planting work in East Lake Park in Ningbo. The volunteer work, which is expected to last for three days, has attracted more than 700 participants.

According to the Xinhua News Agency, Fu Qiping, deputy of National People's Congress, and Party Chief of Tengtou village in Fenghua, Zhejiang Province, voiced the villagers’ concern on environmental protection.

UNDP seeks co-ops with Ningbo

"We hope to share Ningbo's experience in developing micro, small and medium-sized enterprises and social integrated management with the whole world, and let the world know Ningbo." Ms. Renata Dessallien, deputy from United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), told a reporter from Ningbo Evening News on the afternoon of March 6.

Ms. Renata Dessallien, UNDP Resident Representative for China, is in charge of coordinating more than 20 UN branches in China. She said, "The  manufacturing industry in Ningbo is so developed that it goes far beyond my imagination. Encouraged by the policy of opening and innovation, Ningbo has really made remarkable progress in areas like sustainable development, social harmony and public service. "

It is learned that UNDP and Ningbo municipal government has reached an agreement on  co-operation projects of the integrated management of medium and small-sized rivers.

"Currently, most of the small and medium-sized rivers suffer from mismanagement, water deterioration and low standard of disaster prevention, thus it is extremely urgent for China to manage and control the small and medium-sized rivers." said Ms. Renata Dessallien. UNDP aims to summarize the experience of domestic and international river management and create a typical small and medium-sized river pilot project for showcasing. They also are committed to set a standard for the management of small and medium-sized rivers in China under the impact of global climate change. Meanwhile, they plan to carry out personnel training program on international cooperation in an effort to improve the technical level and management capabilities in Ningbo and other areas in China. In addition, Ningbo is located in southeast coast in China, showing there is much room for cooperation between Ningbo and UNDP in the field of marine development and environmental governance.

Grads with doctor degrees compete for village officials

The recruitment of college graduates to serve as village officials has come to an end recently. According to statistics released by the Organization Department of Ningbo Municipal Party Committee and Human Resources and Social Security Bureau on March 5, two candidates with Ph.D have applied for the positions in rural area. This is the first time to see Phd candidates to apply for village positions.

According to statistics, a total of 6,000 people have applied for positions in villages, among which 910 people choose to participate in the merit-based hiring and 5023 in the public selection. Much to the amazement of the examiners, many candidates are graduates from well-know universities with high degrees. There are 348 candidates from universities of 211 Projects and 985 Projects who choose to attend the merit-based selection. 493 candidates are honored graduates on provincial level or honored students in their schools, including 118 with master degrees and two with PhDs.

Ningbo to renovate 35 back streets this year

According to a meeting on the city management held recently, this year, Ningbo will go on the comprehensive renovation of the back streets in central urban areas. Of the 48 back streets in the plan, 35 will get renovated. This program aims to further improve the people's living environment.

Reportedly, The innovation program includes 16 engineering projects including road leveling and so on. In 2012, the city plans to renovate 48 back streets, 17 in Haishu, 12 in Jiangdong, 7 in Jiangbei, 5 in Zhenhai, 7 in Beilun. According to the plan, the renovation of 35 back streets will be finished this year, 11 in Haishu, 11 in Jiangdong, 7 in Jiangbei, 3 in Zhenhai, and 3 in Beilun. Sum for social relief in last year: 8 million yuan

residents have got consumer subsidies; people in straitened circumstances are aided with consumer subsidies; the standard of minimum living allowance has been rising; 149,000 aged people have got living subsidies; people in straitened circumstances are secured with various medical services--these are some of the improvements of the living conditions of the people in Ningbo.

Statistics show that in 2011, Ningbo spent 813,230,000 yuan on social relief.

In the year, 149,000 aged people were benefitted by the monthly subsidy of 50-300 yuan. For this program, the city paid about 74 million yuan. Some counties, cities and districts in Ningbo released even more preferential policies in this respect.

In Zhenhai and Yinzhou districts, the monthly subsidy for a centenarian is 500 yuan. In Cixi City, a person aged between 80 and 98 covered by the minimum living allowance has 30% more than the minimum living allowance. 20,317 houses of the aged people have "All-service telephones" installed for free, to ensure they are serviced in emergencies.

In Ningbo 304 rural community service centers were built or rebuilt and the rural community service centers have added up to 1,655, accounting for 70% of administrative villages.

The party committees and governments of various levels are much concerned about the lives of the poverty-stricken people, taking actions to them solve difficulties caused by consumer goods price rises.

By the end of September 201, the city for three times granted consumer subsidies. These subsidies have totaled 23,370,500 yuan, benefitting 172,227 people.

By the end of December 2011, to 43,533 households of minimum living allowance the city had dealt out 207,426,200 yuan as funds of relief, increased by 16% above the same period of the previous year

A ship of Maersk calls Daxie Port

On February 18, MAERSK EDISON, a ship carrying 13102 teus, called Ningbo Daxie China Merchants International Container Terminal. There it unloaded 7,575 TEUs and loaded 568 TEUs. It is the first ship of Maersk that calls Daxie Port, indicating that the AE20 line of Maersk was officially open in Ningbo Daxie China Merchants International Container Terminal. This line will considerably promote the shipping business of Daxie. MAERSK EDISON, of the UK, 141,649 in tonnage, is one of the largest container ships of Maersk.

今天是大年初一，首先我祝所有关心我、帮助我的好心人新春愉快，龙年大吉大利、健康、平安每一天。我昨天上午针打到十一点就让护士阿姨给我拔掉了，我怕赶不上十二点的车。回家我以为妈妈准备了一桌丰盛的年夜饭，哪知小弟弟和妈妈一晚都没睡过觉，小弟弟前晚又拉又吐，并且发着高烧，小弟弟难受不停地哭闹，妈妈带他去医院看病，自己的饭都顾不上吃。今早爸妈又带小弟弟去医院了，看来这次也要打好几天针，你说这么冷的天要是在家里吃吃、睡睡、晒晒太阳那该多好呀！有些事情就是不由你算，真是没办法。但愿我小弟弟好得快，看到他那难受的样子我们的心情也不好受！

Today is the first day of Dragon Year on the Chinese Lunar Calendar and I would like to send my blessings to the kind who helps and cares me. I didn't finish the saline until 11am and then the nurse stopped it for me in order to let me catch the 12am bus. I thought Mummy would prepare us a nice dinner, but to our surprise, she didn't sleep over night because my little brother got a terrible fever with spitting and diarrhea and went to the hospital. He might need several needles. God bless my little brother be fine soon so we won't feel so upset for him and then we could eat, sleep and enjoy the sunshine together.

China Orchid Expo opened

On the morning of February 17, the 22nd China Orchid Expo, jointly hosted by the Orchid Branch of China Flower Association and Zhenhai District Government, was held in Ningbo Flowers World located in Luotuo Street in Zhenhai District.

China Orchid Expo is China's largest, highest and most professional orchid exposition. Themed as "Orchid, Ecology & Humanity", this year's Expo distinguished itself by selecting a natural and ecological flower planting base as its exhibition area instead of the traditional Exhibition Center or Ningbo Stadium. The exhibition site with an area of 18000 square meters is divided into three exhibition halls: the main hall, the individual pavilions hall and the orchid trade venue. As the hosting site of this year's Expo, Zhenhai has a long history of orchid planting, especially potted orchid. Recent years have seen the great development of flower industry in Zhenhai district. Such famous orchid products as "Spring Orchid", "Ruiding" and "Hurui" are cultivated and a batch of flower industry bases like the "Orchid Island" of Ningbo Flower world. From February 17, those famous orchid products mentioned above will be exhibited together with over 6000 orchid products from 18 provinces and cities on the Expo.

The orchid awards were also announced on February 17. Voted by all the members of the awarding committee, five items were given the special gold awards. They are as follows, the "Butterfly" from Ningbo Orchid Society, "Lotus" from Huangyan Orchid Society, "Pistil Butterfly" from Taizhou Orchid Cooperative Society, "Art in the Spring Sword" from Chenghai, Guangdong Province and "Grand Peony" from Huangyan Town of Taizhou. It is learned that the Orchid Expo will last for four days. And the next session will be held in Taicang, Jiangshu Province.

Ningbo enterprise exports to Libya recovered

Over the last two months, with development of the post-war restoration in Libya, the exports to Libya by Ningbo enterprises have begun to show signs of recovery. Statistics from Ningbo Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau show that from December 1, 2011 to mid-February this year, Ningbo exported 120 batches of statutorily inspected products with a goods value of $7.9 million, up by 135.3% and 283.5% respectively over the previous two months.

From March 2011, the war in Libya lasted for over six months, and the exports value from Ningbo to Libya dropped sharply by $6,000. With the start of the post-war reconstruction, Ningbo exported products including such large household appliances as fridges, freezers and washing machines, small household appliances as electric irons and vacuum cleaners and daily necessities as wool blankets have become increasingly popular in Libya's market. Judged from the exports in the last two months, taking into consideration such factors as the Spring Festival vacation, the exports value by Ningbo enterprises to Libya has gradually recovered to the pre-war level

Standard Chartered Bank (China) entered the online financing platform

The Ningbo Branch of Standard Chartered Bank (China) recently entered the online financing platform for Ningbo foreign trade enterprises, being the first foreign bank member of the platform. According to the statistics from Ningbo Foreign Trade & Economic Cooperation Bureau, the platform has so far taken in 19000 foreign trade enterprises as corporate members and attracted 272 financing service agencies, and in last year it managed to realize the financing matching with the value of 1.28 billion yuan.

The online financing platform for foreign trade enterprises was jointly established by Ningbo Foreign Trade & Economic Cooperation Bureau and Ningbo Center Branch of People's Bank of China. All foreign trade enterprises and financial institutions in Ningbo can become platform users upon free application. It is learned that all users can not only inquire about related financing information through the platform but also submit or undertake financing demands and take out the import and export credit insurance. In 2011, the platform received 152 financing demands from enterprises with a total value of 1.54 billion yuan, and the accomplished value for financing matching reached to 1.28 billion yuan

Ningbo Incentive Travel Promotion Center (Beijing) Set up

The Ningbo Tourism Administration announced the launch of the Ningbo Ningbo Incentive Travel Promotion Center (Beijing) on the afternoon of February 7.
This was a move to cut a larger slice of the conference and incentive travel business across the country.
It is learned that the conference and incentive travel market consist of two parts: conferencing and incentive traveling, which is highly professional, boasting great potentials. It is famed as a golden market by tourism insiders. The Ningbo Tourism Administration says Ningbo boasts premium resources and facilities for the incentive travel business and that the prices are quite competitive.
The promotion center is the first of the kind Ningbo has ever set up outside the city, according to the Administration. For the next move, they will initiate similar promotions in Shanghai and other cities.

Consulting services on hearing rehabilitation offered in Ningbo Book City

On the morning of March 2, a day before the 13th National Ear Care Day, Ningbo CDPF, together with the Ningbo Rehabilitation Hospital and Disabled Persons' Federation of Jiangdong District, offered free consulting services on hearing rehabilitation to citizens.

Under the theme of ‘Reduce noise and protect your ears”, the organizers publicized knowledge about taking care of ears through posters, brochures distribution. They also offered free consultation service on noise prevention and hearing health. Meanwhile, they gave off free anti-noise earplugs to those who work long hours in the high-decibel workplace.

Experts say, noise may irritate people and loud noise even do harm to human health. However, noise exists everywhere in our daily life. Loud noise can cause discomfort of human body. Long-term exposure to environmental noise as high as 90 db can lead to severe hearing damage and cause neurasthenia, headache, hypertension and other diseases. According to the second National Sample Survey on Disability, hearing disability caused by noise is steadily on rise.

Experts offer the following advices to the public. Do not stay too long in a loud noise environment. If necessary, use the anti-noise earplugs. Besides, developing good habits with the ears can effectively reduce noise damage.

Seven exhibitions to be held in March

According to local authorities, seven exhibitions will be held in Ningbo international Exhibition Centre in March, including the 13th International Machinery Industry Exhibition, the 5th China (Ningbo) International Boutique Furniture Exhibition and the 17th Ningbo International Auto Expo. These events are good opportunities for consumers in Ningbo to find a good home decoration company, or to buy a piece of new furniture or even a new car.

Almost every day in March will see an exhibition ongoing. Sometimes two exhibitions might be held at the same time, but in different pavilions.

These exhibitions come in all sizes. Some might just take up in one pavilion while others may occupy three or four pavilions. One of the most striking scene will be the 17th Ningbo International Auto Expo held on March 23 to 26, which takes up all the eight pavilions in the Exhibition Center. Moreover, 10 car exhibitors have to display their cars in the outdoor open space.

Some exhibitions are so important that they serve as industry benchmark. Take the 13th International Machinery Industry Exhibition as example. Having attracted a large number of well-known domestic and international machine manufacturers, the exhibition directly reveals the current condition of the manufacturing enterprises in Ningbo. The fifth China (Ningbo) international Boutique furniture from March 9 to 12 remains a topic of concern, for it will show if Ningbo furniture market can survive the effect from the recent control policy over property market regulation.

Ningbo's first auction for mining rights

Recently, the live auction for two mining rights has been successfully held in Ningbo. This is the first live auction for mining rights in public trading platform after major adjustment on mining rights trading has been made last November.

The auction includes the mining rights of two ordinary stone mines. The first one is located in a village in Yin Jiang Township in Yinzou District. After a price offer, the mining right was sold at 8.85 million yuan.

The second one belongs to an ordinary building stone mine located in another village in Yinzhou District, with a capacity of 5.14 million tones. The starting price was 10.8 million yuan. Besides, the bidder has to pay a total of 8.5 million yuan as the deposit for environmental resuming. After a fierce competition of 38 bids, a bidder finally won the mining right at 26.7 million yuan, with a premium rate as high as 147%

Ningbo gives preference to small enterprises in personnel training

This year, Ningbo will further favor the enterprises in personnel training so that in 2015 the enterprises will have 85% of the total of talents. According to Ningbo Municipal Human Resource Center, this year the city will give preference to small and micro enterprises in personnel training.

Small and micro enterprises are often restricted by lack of qualified talented people. Reportedly, the city this year will open more training resources to small and micro enterprises. Those fast growing and upgrading middle, small and micro enterprises will have greater support. The management personnel in middle and small enterprises may have opportunities to get trained in advanced training classes home and abroad.

Results of State Quality Checks of Ningbo products

The other day, the State Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine released the result of the 6th products quality check 2011. In 2011, Ningbo had 6 batches of products checked by the state. Of the 457 batches of products of 70 kinds checked, 421 batches passed, with the acceptance rate reaching 92.1%, 5 points higher than the previous year. This indicates that the quality of Ningbo products is in general good.

Of the products checked, 52 kinds are 100% qualified, including bed necessities, electric processing lathes, home gas stoves, glasses and pressure cookers.

Ningbo to take 11 special actions for the "6 accelerates" strategy

According to Ningbo Municipal Office of the Campaign of the "Three Thinks and Three Pursues", the working plan for the campaign this year was recently released. In the plan are 11 special actions for the solution of the social and economic difficulties and the problems of greatest concern to the people. These actions aim to further accelerate the implement of the "6 accelerates" strategy.

To promote the industrial transformation and upgrading, Ningbo will take special actions to support the rapidly growing enterprises, eliminate backward productivities and promote energy saving and discharge reduction. According to the plan, this year Ningbo will complete the approval and implement of 100 key preliminary works of new projects and start the construction of 100 key projects. It will eliminate a number of backward productivities in 14 key industries, improve 31 massive economic areas of highly polluting and high energy consuming enterprises and save 300,000 tons of standard coal every year.

To speed up improving the quality of the people's lives, the city will take special actions to renovate 60 villages and towns in those underdeveloped areas. It will take special actions to improve the main roads and renovate 35 back streets in the central urban areas.
