Ningbo Education Museum opens

Ningbo Education Museum was officially open to public on May 16. Zhang Bai, President of China Association of Museums, Chairman of China Cultural Relics Protection Foundation, and former Deputy Director of the State Bureau of Cultural Relics, and Wu Zhiyou, Director of Beijing Museum of Confucian Temple and Imperial School, were invited to attend the opening ceremony of the museum. According to Zhang Bai, Ningbo Education Museum is the first museum for education at the municipal level, filling a gap for the domestic museum system. 
Located at the No. 106, Heyi Road, the museum used to be a three-storey teaching building for the Yongjiang Girls' School, with a construction area of 2385 square meters. Three basic displays are arranged in the museum, including "evolution of education in the ancient period in Ningbo" , "contemporary road of education in Ningbo" and "modern education in Ningbo". There are also five secondary displays, including a group sculpture of ancient educators in Ningbo, the interactive classroom, a visual image of schooling for ancient people, the story of the Yongjiang Girls' School and an exhibition of old education items.   
So far, the museum has collected over 3600 physical items and over 600 electronic ones, including a work of Zhang Yun, the last No.1 Scholar of the ancient imperial examination, a picture of the supervisor of the imperial school in late Qing Dynasty, a textbook for kids in Qing Dynasty and a book on the ways of cheating in imperial examinations. 
Since its preparation two years ago, the museum has attracted support some organizations and people concerned, such as Guo Yongyao, Chu Jianguo and Ge Weidong. Statistics show that the museum has accepted over 3000 collections donated by 137 individuals and 116 organizations. 
Meanwhile, the virtual museum has been established (www.nb-edu-museum.cn). The internet and multi-media technologies have made it possible for the museum to reach more people and t0 reform the traditional displays. 

Memorandum between University of Nottingham and Ningbo New Material Research Institute signed

On the afternoon of May 6th, memorandum of Ningbo New Material Research Institute was signed at the University of Nottingham in Ningbo. Before the signing ceremony, Liu Qi, Provincial Party Committee and Party Secretary, David Greenaway, president of the University of Nottingham joined a discussion of cooperation on development. City leaders Wang Jianbo, Chan Chungchao and Yang Fujia, president of the University of Nottingham attended the ceremony.

Ningbo New Material Research Institute of the University of Nottingham was set up by the University of Nottingham and sponsored by Ningbo National Hi-tech Zone (New Material Technology Town Board), the Municipal Science and Technology Bureau. The institute, with new materials technology and engineering research as the core, engages in the fields of composite materials and engineering, soil mechanics and particle materials and technologies, sustainable materials and advanced manufacturing technology, new energy materials and technology, advanced materials and engineering analysis technology to make technology innovation internationally competitive. It is expected to introduce five international high-end R & D teams, build international schools in China's scientific and technological achievements into bases, as well as an important platform for international science and technology cooperation in Ningbo in about five years.

Liu Qi has expressed thanks for the support to the development of Ningbo from the University of Nottingham and welcomed David • Greenaway and his team’s visits. He said that the University of Nottingham built by Nottingham and Ningbo had already flourished. Ningbo college graduates are active in entrepreneurship

A college student Han Mingyang who is trying to produce soft-shelled crabs now has a clear plan for his Ruite Aquaculture Company. The creator of "Chuanshi Gutoufan" which can be found all over the streets of Ningbo is a post-85 Xu Xijun. 
About 42 out of 1000 college students will choose to start up their own business. Recently, statistics from the Municipal Employment Management Service Bureau show that with the joint effects of thick entrepreneurship atmosphere and supporting policies, about 2166 college graduates started up their business in 2014. The entrepreneurship ratio reaches 4.2%, leading its counterparts in China. Ningbo is striving to become the most dynamic entrepreneurship city. 
It is learned that since 2009, Ningbo has issued about 24 policies to lower the threshold for college graduates to start up their business. It has also helped to solve problems like capital, venue, training and operation during the process of entrepreneurship. College students and college graduates within 2 years can register their company with zero down payment as long as they can pay for the registration capital within 2 years; college students with the idea of entrepreneurship but no idea about how to start can attend various entrepreneurship training courses supported by the government; if they put their idea into practice and start up a real or online business, the government will provide them with subsidy; if they create jobs for their peers, they will also get employment bonus; they can also have a 500 thousand yuan loan for their creative idea. The government will pay for the interest for three years. The head of the municipal employment management service bureau said that the government and other entrepreneurship service agencies will help the students with the idea and action of starting up their business.

Job Fair for College Students Held in Ningbo

On the afternoon of April 29, the matchmaking fair for college students was held in Ningbo University. 65 corporations enlisted in “3315 plan” came for talents and there were more than 150 enterprises and municipal institutions to offer job (internship) opportunities and pioneering support .

Here is the background information. “3315” for Ningbo people is a synonym for  well-educated elites and teams.  The government plans to take five or ten years (from 2011 on) to introduce a group of high-level talents from overseas and render them with generous support, scattering and cultivating them around in various development zones, scientific research institutions and research parks, and Creative Parks. This plan is dedicated to enlist 30 of these talents into “The Recruitment Program of Global Experts” on state level,300 of them into “The Recruitment Program of Global Experts” on provincial level, and 1000 into municipal level. Besides, 5000 of innovative and entrepreneurial talents recruited from overseas are to be added. All above plan is called “3315”for short.

University Work Conference Held in Ningbo

Universities Work Conference of Ningbo was held on the afternoon of April 13. Yu Hongyi, Deputy Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee at the meeting stressed that the city's colleges and universities should grasp the new situation and new tasks with innovation and pragmatism, and strive to create a new situation in the development of higher education in the city so as to make new contributions to the realization of the Two Basics and the building of Four Good Demonstration Areas. The conference was hosted by Wan Yawei, Member of the Party Committee, Vice Mayor, and Minister of Municipal Propaganda Department. Zhang Minghua, Vice Mayor, attended the meeting.

Over the last ten odd years, Ningbo has achieved considerable development in higher education, its number of universities having increased from 3 in 1998 to 15, and its enrollment rate having climbed from 8.8% to 57% with nearly 160,000 students being full-time students. As a result, we have basically founded a diversified, service-oriented, and well-featured education system, giving strong support for the economic and social development of Ningbo.
