The results of the appraisal for sci-tech awards of Cixi for the year 2013 were made known the other day. A number of sci-tech achievements of corporate R&D agencies were most eye-catching. Among them, four innovations won the first prize, including the “Research on Browning Rule and Control Technology of Export Quick-frozen Komatsuna”, and eight won the second prize such as "LTV3266D, an all-in-one Terrestrial Digital TV of High Definition (GB)”.
Cixi has vigorously implemented the “Enterprise R&D Echelon Construction Plan” and given priority to the key project researches, cultivation of innovative enterprises and industry-university-institute collaboration. To accelerate the transformation and upgrading of Cixi, more than 200 enterprise research and development institutions have been set up so far, among which 3 are at national level, 36 provincial level, and 83 city level. Four leading enterprises including Ningbo Xinhai Electric Co.,Ltd., Ningbo Cixing Co.,Ltd., Ningbo Qile Co.,Ltd., Cixi Huili Machinery & Electric Co.,Ltd. have built their own research institutes.

With the logistics network system and the market layout of the hinterland much improved, the Port of Ningbo has made a good start in cargo handling during the first quarter of the year. The container throughput stands at 4.375 million TEUs and cargo throughput 125.43 million tons, increased by 8.4% and 9% respectively.
Since the beginning of this year, the Port of Ningbo has been pursuing the strategy of developing logistics as the engine, aiming to transform the traditional loading and unloading business into modern logistics . It has made greater efforts in developing domestic branch lines, no-water ports and railway-river through transportation, which helps to expand the domestic market, boost the trade in the hinterland and promote the growth of the throughput.
Strategic cooperation has been strengthened between the Port of Ningbo and container liners to maintain the stability of ocean main lines and reinforce the network layout of domestic lines. By the end of March, the Port of Ningbo has owned 233 shipping lines , including 115 ocean lines.
In terms of waterway logistics, the Port of Ningbo tries to expand the hinterland market through exploring domestic lines in the hinterland For the first time of this year, the self-owned fleets of the Port are put to use on domestic trade lines, among which lines like Zhapu set a new record high in container throughput, which contributes a lot to the growth of 15.4% of the transshipment of container business of the port and the increase of 15% in throughput of domestic trade .
As for the roadway logistics, the Port of Ningbo is speeding up the extension of the network of railway-river-through transportation, the service of which has been successfully extended from Xi’an to Lanzhou and Xinjiang this year. In the first quarter of this year, 28,955 TEUs has been shipped in total, increased by 24.5% compared with the same period last year.
At the same time, the Port of Ningbo has made the logistics chain more efficient by developing transit shipping and else ways and forming a new structure of collecting and distributing coal. During the first quarter 20.13 million tons of coal has been handled, increased by 12.9%.
The Port of Ningbo has also made best use of its own port resources by striving to develop bonded, cold-chain, consolidation, dangerous chemicals, futures and financial logistics, which has promoted the efficient and coordinated development of port logistics and wharf business.
