Facility agriculture promoting modern agriculture transformation and upgrading

Two "intelligent greenhouses" are established in Cixi Shaogen Vegetables Cooperative Society: an intelligent terminal automatically adjusts the temperature, light and humidity every five minutes; and a display is showing the real-time monitoring information of the greenhouse which is divided into nine sections. Such kind of intelligent agriculture machines are common nowadays in the agriculture cooperative societies in Ningbo. The rise of the facility agriculture and "intelligent agriculture machiney" has made a great difference in the traditional way of crop growing and promoted the modern agriculture transformation and upgrading in Ningbo.

Since 2010, the agriculture machinery departments in Ningbo have included the facility agriculture construction in the subsidy scope and have implemented a total amount of subsidies of nearly 40 million yuan and attracted social capitals of 150 million yuan. Since last year, Ningbo has initiated the intelligent agriculture machinery construction and has established the comprehensive information management platform integrating the agriculture machinery geography information, the "telescope" network video surveillance, the intelligent logistics control of featured pillar industries and the video conference system. Such advanced technologies as 3S, Internet of Things and solar energy have been introduced into the agricultural machinery area to form a reasonable combination with existing machinery and equipments.

Heritage Studio for Craft Masters established

The opening ceremony of the Heritage Studio for Craft Masters was held in Ningbo Polytechnic on November 25. Thirteen craft masters in Ningbo were invited to attend the ceremony, and four of them (including Chen Ai'e, color embroidery master, Guo Lingmei, sachet-making master, Hu Peifen, straw-hat making master and Zhu Yingdu, lime-carving master) signed agreements with the college to settle down in the studio.

It is said that the establishment of the studio will contribute directly to the flourishing of folk crafts and skills in the college. By taking college students as disciples, the masters can pass down their secrets and skills that have been accumulated in their life-long practices and contribute to the education and development of a group of blue-collar talents that are good at solving technical problems.

Jiangbei District accelerating enterprise internationalization

Recently, Ningbo Dairy Group invested nearly 100 million yuan in buying and building the Corinella Ranch in Australia, aiming at enhancing the competitiveness of Ningbo's diary industry by taking advantage of the high-quality overseas ranch resources and cattle resources. Since the beginning of this year, Jiangbei District has approved the investment of 19 enterprises in foreign areas and approved the investment of US$164.51 millions from the Chinese side, covering such areas as trade, services, mining, agriculture, animal husbandry and fisheries. Enterprises in the district developed further in their way of internationalization.

Ningbo is an export-oriented city and a large number of products by enterprises in Jiangbei District are produced for export. In June this year, China National Development and Reform Commission and other related departments issued the "implementation guidance of encouraging and conducting private enterprises to carry out beyond-the-border investment", encouraging enterprises especially private enterprises to "go global". It is at that time that the transformation from "product export" to "beyond-the-border investment" started in Jiangbei District and many enterprises began to diversify their investment objects.

Sci and tech increase grain output

The 340 mus organic rice of Grain Cooperative of Shandeng village in Shangtian Town reaped a bumper harvest recently, and every kilogram of rice sold at a price of 50 yuan. The good news excited greatly Wang Fuqiang, who charges the Cooperative. He said that agricultural experts guided them to grow high-quality rice without chemical fertilizers and pesticides, and the rice sold well in the market.

Introducing technology talents to guide the development of high efficient agriculture is a key measure of Shangtian Town in recent years. The town introduced talents from colleges and research centers and carried out scientific and technological production, industrialized operation as well as brand management, transforming the traditional agricultural mode into a modern mode. Fenghua Aoji Agricultural Science and Technology Co., Ltd hired Lu Lizhi and Tao Zhengrrong, who are both livestock breeding researchers of Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences, as its technical advisors and invested over five mln yuan to set up a private institution. Up till now, the institute has helped the company improve the production quantity and quality, attracting many experts from other countries like Germany and Japan.

Going global is another development of Shangtian high-efficient agriculture. As its strawberries win great reputation, some farmers began to grow strawberries in Pudong, Jiading of Shanghai. The planting area of Shangtian strawberries reached 3,200 mus, forming a pattern of large-scale growing and industrialized operation. 

Registered trademark guarantees products’ quality

Mei Xuejun, a farmer in Yuyao city, no longer need worry about selling out his Jiaobai (wild rice stem) ever since it was labeled the trademark of “Yuyao Jiaobai”. Moreover, its price is also several times higher than other unlabeled ones.  

　　Trademark to identify places of origin of agricultural products is only a miniature of the achievements that Ningbo has made in building itself into a trademark demo city. Ningbo’s trademark construction developed rapidly with the national preferential policy in building trademark demo cities. News from Ningbo’s Industrial and Commercial Bureau showed that the total number of Ningbo’s registered trademarks increased by 52.8 percent, among which 7,625 were international ones and ranked the first in Zhejiang province. The number of trademarks to identify places of origin were 21, resulting in relative farmers’ annual income increasing by 30 percent averagely.  

In May, 2010, Ningbo became the first group of demo cities to carry out the trademark strategy. The construction work won great attention from the government. For one thing, all the enterprises enjoy “green channels” in trademark registration cycle, international trademark application, and protection of well-known trademarks. For another thing, the Municipal Party Committee and the government launched ten policies in relevance to the trademark strategy, aiming at promoting companies’ independent innovation, and the trademark building and managing of small and medium - sized and micro enterprises. In addition, all county (town) level governments also carried out many rewarding policies.

Zhejiang to strengthen partnership with Singapore

The eighth meeting of the Singapore - Zhejiang Economic and Trade Council (SZETC) was held in Ningbo on Nov. 20, and it is learned that Ningbo is hopeful to embrace more commercial opportunities as Zhejiang plans to strengthen its cooperation with Singapore in marine economy, trade and internationalization, environment protection and port logistics as well as other service industries in 2013. Officials attended the meeting included Gong Zheng, a member of the Provincial Standing Committee, and Fu Haiyan, Minister of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) of Singapore. The latter is also the second minister of the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources and second minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The SZETC was formed in 2003 and has played an important role in promoting the bilateral economic and trade cooperation between Singapore and Zhejiang. Singapore has also become an important trade partner of Ningbo. From Jan. to Aug. in 2012, Ningbo’s imports from Singapore stood at 489 mln US dollars, an increase of 72.2 percent over the same period of the previous year. The cooperation increased significantly as Ningbo held the Singapore-China (Ningbo) Import & Export Fair for four consecutive years since 2009. The fair of this year has attracted over 3,000 Singapore purchasers and businessmen, and made a turnover of 40 mln US dollars.
