World’s largest container ship docks in Zhoushan Port

The world’s largest container ship docked for the first time to the newly-built highest-level container berth in China - At about 4p.m. on May 1, “Hyundai Algeciras” ship, with a capacity of 23,964 TEU, steadily docked in berth 7 of Meishan Port District of Ningbo Zhoushan Port. The ship will sail along the “21st Century Maritime Silk Road” to European ports after loading and unloading more than 5800 TEUs in Meishan Port. 

Meishan Port District has a total of 10 approved container berths and a car roll-toll shipment berth. No. 1 to No. 5 berth and car ro-ro berth has been put into use. No. 6 and No.7, two 200,000-ton berth, are the highest level of newly built container berth at home. And the efforts of building remaining berths are accelerating. Upon operation, the No.1 to No.10 berths in Meishan Port would see an annual container throughput of over 10 million TEUs. As a result, Meishan port is expected to become the second “ten million class” single container terminal in Ningbo Zhoushan Port and the fourth “ten million class” in the world following Tangshan Port.

Chuanshan Port Station of Ningbo-Zhoushan Railway opens

At 11 o'clock on April 15, as the first container was steadily unloaded from the "Huzhou-Ningbo Zhoushan Port" sea-rail intermodal train, the Ningbo Zhoushan Port Railway Chuanshan Port Station was officially opened. The development of railway intermodal transportation is of great significance to the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative.

Ningbo Zhoushan Port is the only port in the world with an annual cargo throughput of more than 1.1 billion tons and the third largest port with annual container throughput. It is a “hard-core” force in the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative.

Import and export volume of Ningbo Port hits a historical high

According to the statistics from Ningbo Customs, the total value of import and export of Ningbo Port in 2017 reached 17 trillion yuan, up by 6.7% over the previous year, hitting a historical high in terms of the scale. To be specific, the export volume stood at 12 trillion yuan, up by 9.4%, and the import volume stood at 498.89 billion yuan, up by 0.6%, with the trade surplus of 710.86 billion yuan, up by 16.6%.

In terms of the variety of the enterprises, the private import and export enterprises achieved a total import and export volume of over 11 trillion yuan, up by 10.5%, accounting for 66.4% of the total, with a contribution rate of 100% to the growth of the port foreign trade. The foreign-funded import and export enterprises achieved a total import and export volume of 293.78 billion yuan, up by 3.6%. While the state-owned import and export enterprises achieved a total import and export volume of 279.04 billion yuan, down by 3.8%.

A few days ago, under the guidance of the Municipal Port Office, the joint evaluation of the 2019 Ningbo Port Enterprise Credit Evaluation Results by the Ningbo Shipping Exchange and other units was officially released. According to reports, the total number of enterprises evaluated this time was 1,848, an increase of 502 over the previous year, an increase of 37.3%. Among them, there were 166 Class A companies, an increase of 17 year-on-year, 1,622 Class B companies, 52 Class C companies, and 8 Class D companies.

Historical “double 11” breakthrough of Ningbo Zhoushan Port

On January 15, Ningbo Zhoushan Port released the following information: according to statistics from Zhejiang Port and Shipping Management Center, the total cargo handling capacity of this port reaches 1.119 billion tons in 2019, making it the only mega port in the world with an annual figure overtaking 1.1 billion tons and ranking first in the world for 11 consecutive years. Its container handling capacity exceeded 27.53 million, ranking among the top three in the world.

“As the largest comprehensive cargo hub, Ningbo Zhoushan Port has complete wharves and deals with all kinds of goods. Cargo like mine, coal and oil associated with the sustainability of national economy all can be transferred and dealt here”, said person concerned from Ningbo Zhoushan Port.

Experts in Port circle suggested that the double “11” breakthrough is of great significance to the integrated high quality development of Zhejiang Sea Ports
