International Fair for Living & Lifestyle to be kicked off next week

2013 Ningbo International Fair for Living & Lifestyle will kick off next Friday in Ningbo's International Convention and Exhibition Centre, said the organizing committee. Being the largest luxury products exhibition ever held in Ningbo, the event will display private aircrafts, RV yachts, luxury furniture, watches, leatherwear, jewelry, high-tech home products and various high-end items. This event will be the first large-scale imported luxury exhibition after Ningbo issued policies to encourage exhibitions of imported products.

With the theme of "Integrating Lxury and Exploring Fashion", the fair is jointly sponsored by Ningbo Federation of Industry & Commerce, Ningbo Entrepreneurs Association, Ningbo Federation of Industrial Design, and a major local website, cnnb.com.cn.

Covering an exhibition area of nearly 20,000 square meters, the event attracts more than 150 domestic and international exhibitors, who plan to display over 3,000 home products and services. The exhibition features a number of well-known luxury brands including Bentley, Rolls-Royce, Lamborghini, Vacheron Constantin, Pictet Tsui Lai, Bobo Li, Hermes, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Armani and many other famous brands. Some exhibitors will offer attractive discounts to the visitors.

The organizing committee will also arrange a number of interactive activities, including test flights of private aircraft, test drives of limousines, and other vehicle rides on water and land. Meanwhile, there will be a pottery making show performed by celebrated artists. The visitors can also get free jewelry identification service.

Elderly volunteers help teaching children of migrant workers

In a recent volunteer program, three elderly volunteers offered free classes to kids in Shikang Primary School, a school for children of migrant workers.

As calligraphy lovers, Lin Lifeng and Ge Yiping gave hard-nib calligraphy classes to the children. Another volunteer teacher, Qian Xinghan, a former fighter pilot, taught aviation knowledge to the children.

Shikang Primary School is a school established for migrant children. The school planed to offer more extra-curricular activities for the pupils but the plan was delayed for lack of professional teachers. Elderly members of a local Elderly University showed great concerns to the children after they learnt the situation. To help the teachers and children, they volunteered to give free classes to the kids. Other elderly volunteers plans to offer more extracurricular classes in music, painting, dance, handcraft and oral English.

Ninghai plans to build National Marine Wetland Park

Ninghai, a coastal county of Ningbo, plans to build a marine wetland park on national level, said local tourism authorities this Tuesday.

Being the first of its kind, Ninghai National Marine Wetland Park will be built on an inter-tidal wetland, and showcases ancient bridges, a museum of ancient marriage customs, and a museum of "the Silk Road on the Sea". By offering beautiful scenery, rural heritage, recreation and nature-based experiences, the park combines the protection, recovery, utilization, research, and sightseeing of the natural and cultural heritage. The park plans to cover a total area of 10,725 mu (1,766.8 acre), which includes 5,850 mu ( 936.7 acre) as tidal-flat area, and 1,875 (294 acre) mu as encircled water area.

The project will be implemented in two phases. Phase I plans to build Niutai Village and its nearby beach into the country's first national wetland park, which covers an area of 7,580 mu(1,248.7 acre). The effort intends to restore coastal wetland ecological environment, improve wintering habitat for migratory birds and enhance biodiversity. Phase II aims to enlarge the park by enclosing Wuao Village, which covers 3,145 acres, into the park. The expansion intends to provide a tourist attraction as well as a functioning wetland and educational facility to the public. The opening of the park is expected to promote wetland protection while boosting local tourism.

Ningbo's exports of cultural product hit $440 in first 3 quarters

The export volume of Ningbo's cultural products in the first three quarters of 2013 totaled $440 million, an increase of 8.2 percent year on year, 6.5 percentage points higher than the overall export growth rate over same period, according to customs data. Exports of visual art and published works accounted for the majority of the exports.

U.S. and EU are the top two importers, whose import volume stood at $160 million and $110 million respectively, an increase of 6 percent and 6.6 percent. The total import volume of U.S. and EU takes up 61.4 percent of the total cultural products export volume in Ningbo over the same period. In terms of market growth, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Russia and Thailand saw 1.1 times, 1.3 times and 4.4 times growth to $8,339,000, $8,154,000 and $3,606,000, respectively.

Aiming to make the cultural industry "a pillar of the national economy", Ningbo takes a number of steps to boost cultural industry. By setting up a cultural industry development fund, and granting subsidies, Ningbo strives to promote a number of new industry projects. Currently, Ningbo has 33 cultural industry demonstration bases on national, provincial and municipal levels, which export cultural products to 145 countries and regions.
