Ningbo to speed up afforestation in central urban areas

According to a related meeting on afforestation, From 2014, Ningbo is going to speed up afforestation in central urban areas. By 2016, the city shall increase green belts of 5.6 million square meters.

To speed up the "Beautiful Ningbo" program, the city management department will start the construction of a number of projects of parks and green belts. In the central urban area, the city will build Xiayu Park and Xindian Park and promote the first-phase work of a number of large afforestation projects including Lulin Park, so as to raise the afforestation area of the city. In 2014, the city will speed up the projects including Ningbo Botanical Garden, the 2nd phase of Yinzhou Park, the Riverside Park of the Yaojiang River, the waterside park in Ningbo National Hi-tech Zone, the ecological belt in Eastern New Town, and the public park in Eastern New Town.

In 2014, the city will make breakthroughs in vertical planting and afforestation projects.

Iran becomes the third largest trading partner of Ningbo

According to latest statistics from Ningbo Customs on the 19th, the import and export volume via Ningbo Port during the first month of 2014 reached 122.52 billion yuan, an increase of 6.5% compared to the same period in 2013. 
Statistics show that in January Ningbo Port's top 10 trading partners generated trading volume of 77.54 billion yuan, accounting for 63.3% of total foreign trade over the same period. The top ten trading partners were the EU (20.72 billion yuan, down 5.5 percent), the United States (12.81 billion yuan, down 5.5 percent), Iran (8.91 billion yuan, an increase of 1.7 times), ASEAN (6.87 billion yuan, down 12.7%), Russia (5.91 billion yuan, an increase of 36.5%), Iraq (5.44 billion yuan, an increase of 44.2%), China Taiwan region (5.36 billion yuan, down 4%), Saudi Arabia (3.9 billion yuan, up 9%), Japan (3.88 billion yuan, down 5.4%), Australia (3.74 billion yuan, an increase of 31.7%). Among the top ten trading partners Iran made the largest growth during the first month, which is about 1.7 times that of the same period last year, thus overtaking ASEAN and becoming the third largest partner of Ningbo Port.

Exhibition of oil paintings of famous modern Russian artists opened

The other day, the Exhibition of Oil Paintings of Famous Modern Russian Artists opened in Ningbo Museum of Art. It is a high grade international exhibition after EU (China) Art Exchange Center opened in Ningbo Museum of Art.

The painting art of Russia is characteristic of a long history, excellent tradition, distinct Russian nationality and realistic spirit. The artists of the exhibition are professors from Moscow State Academic Art Institute named after V.I. Surikov, and Repin Institute for Painting, and also artists from some mainstream academies of art. The exhibition will remain open till March 4. The exhibition of 69 works is in Hall 3 in Ningbo Museum of Art.

Outbound investment surges

There arises a surge of outbound investment in Ningbo. A couple of days ago, Sunny Optical Technology, a listed company in Hong Kong, announced the buyout of a 3D visual technology company of Israel at one million USD. Geely Automobile is to invest 96 million USD in Sweden for establishment of auto research and development center. In 2013, Ningbo enterprises established 206 companies and agencies overseas, with the verified investment of 1.57 billion USD, a rise of 20% year on year.  
As a strength-based optical business, Sunny Optical Technology, based in Yuyao of Ningbo, has tasted the sweetness of expansion through buyouts overseas. Years ago, they purchased the optical companies in Shanghai and Korea and last year they bought out the world-famous Meda company, a manufacturer of astronomical telescope, which made Sunny Optical the world’s largest manufacturer of astronomical telescopes. At the beginning of this year, looking to the further increase of the 3D optical business, Sunny Optical joined hands with a 3D visual creative tool and technology company of Israel named MantisVi-sion. The two sides agreed that Sunny Optical is to buy out 200,000 shares of B preference shares from the company at one million USD. 
In addition to merger and acquisition of quality assets overseas, some enterprises of Ningbo have intensified efforts in exploring the overseas market and making use of the overseas talents. At the end of last year, Geely Automobile invested 96 million USD in Sweden for the establishment of a Sino-Europe automobile technology company, which is aimed to develop automobiles by use of the world resources. 
 “The surge of making outbound investment is mainly attributed to the drop of price of quality assets in foreign countries. It helps promote the zeal of Ningbo enterprises for expanding market overseas and establish a market system that well links the domestic and overseas market. It’s expected the going-global investment of Ningbo enterprises will maintain a rapid growth.” said Xu Jianhua, deputy chief director of the foreign economy and trade bureau.
