In the first half of this year, the cargo and container throughput via Ningbo Port grew together. The former stood at 222 million tons and the latter 7.8 million TEU, up by 6.1% and 10.1% respectively, both hitting a historic high.
Someone with Ningbo Port Group remarked that amid the sluggish domestic micro economy, the slowdown of foreign trade and adverse climate, Ningbo Port has made every effort in opening up markets and competing for goods suppliers. It gives full play to its clustering advantage and arranges its port production scientifically. It also fully taps the potential of its waterways, berths and storage capacity to ensure the sustainable growth of port production. As many shipping companies are running shipping lines jointly, carrying out berth exchange and cooperation and frequent line integration, Ningbo Port actively seeks international transit, domestic trade and inland

The scorching heat has elevated the power consumption in Ningbo, which reached 8 million kwh at 10:25 am on July 2nd. The first wave of power consumption peak has arrived in advance, up by 1.3 million kw over the previous year.
The power consumption will continue to grow amid hot weather. It is expected to reach 100 million kw in Ningbo this summer, with a power consumption shortage of up to 1.5 million kw at most. The power & electricity department says that the shortage will be even serious in extreme heat or during failure of generator sets.
East Ningbo city and Beilun are relatively weak in power supply. "We will step up grid construction and put in a batch of substation equipment", said someone in charge. It is estimated that the 500 kv north substation will be in operation next year, which will greatly ease power supply tension in east city. The expansion of Chunxiao substation will also help ensure the power supply in Beilun.
The removal and relocation of two 110 kv power lines, which are heavily affected by subway construction, is also underway. The lines supply power for over 60 communities in Haishu and Jiangdong districts as well as many important public institutions. "It is power peak now. With the rapid rise of power consumption, the power supply is less reliable during the removal and relocation." The power & electricity department says that 3 orderly use of power plans and emergency plans have been made to ensure stable power supply in central urban city. The removal and relocation work is expected to be finished in mid July.
Currently, the 2012 Ningbo Grid and Super-grid Power Supply Capacity and Ration List and 2012 Peak Shifting and Averting Schedule for Enterprises have been made. The orderly use of power will be started in due time.
Ningbo will promote technical supervision and regulation for the first time this year. It will also urge enterprises to carry out the peak shifting and averting program through technical supervision and monitoring.

On July 2, drilling operations started in the Damu Bay Shimao Block. In accordance with the plan, the drilling of burying 250 underground pipes will complete and take the lead in starting the new energy project of Ground Source Heat Pump.
“Shimao Block project is the starting project in Damu Bay. The construction acts in line with the requirements of low-carbon technologies, which means that the low-carbon plan is carried out in concrete projects.” Wu Kaifang, the director of the Damu Bay management committee said, “in accordance with the Damu Bay eco-construction guiding principle, the new city will make the best of the special geological and resource advantages such as tidal flats, coastal, etc., and make full use of ground source heat, water, wind, solar and other new energy to achieve the goal of constructing the first low-carbon eco-town in the country as a demonstrative project.”
According to the technician at construction site, each well is of eighty to ninety meters depth in Shimao Block and 250 ground source heat pump pipelines which will provide shallow geothermal energy for 50 sets of low-rise buildings are supposed to be embedded into the 250 wells. The buildings supported by ground source heat will no longer need air conditioner external unit and indoor hot water equipments. Over 30% electricity can be saved compared to the central air conditioners. Besides the ground source heat pump, the first construction projects will also fully implement the low-carbon technologies such as building energy saving, rainwater retrieving, and garbage classification.
