The first projects implementing low-carbon construction in Damu Bay

On July 2, drilling operations started in the Damu Bay Shimao Block. In accordance with the plan, the drilling of burying 250 underground pipes will complete and take the lead in starting the new energy project of Ground Source Heat Pump.
“Shimao Block project is the starting project in Damu Bay. The construction acts in line with the requirements of low-carbon technologies, which means that the low-carbon plan is carried out in concrete projects.” Wu Kaifang, the director of the Damu Bay management committee said, “in accordance with the Damu Bay eco-construction guiding principle, the new city will make the best of the special geological and resource advantages such as tidal flats, coastal, etc., and make full use of ground source heat, water, wind, solar and other new energy to achieve the goal of constructing the first low-carbon eco-town in the country as a demonstrative project.”

According to the technician at construction site, each well is of eighty to ninety meters depth in Shimao Block and 250 ground source heat pump pipelines which will provide shallow geothermal energy for 50 sets of low-rise buildings are supposed to be embedded into the 250 wells. The buildings supported by ground source heat will no longer need air conditioner external unit and indoor hot water equipments. Over 30% electricity can be saved compared to the central air conditioners. Besides the ground source heat pump, the first construction projects will also fully implement the low-carbon technologies such as building energy saving, rainwater retrieving, and garbage classification.
