Ningbo Port's trade volume tops $ 97.17 billion in the first half of 2012

Customs statistics released on Wednesday show Ningbo Port's trade volume reached $97.17 billion in the first half of 2012, an increase of 2.3 percent over the same period last year, accounting for 5.3 percent of the total imports and exports of China. The figure consists of import valued at $36.93 billion, down 1.4 percent year-on-year, export valued at $ 60.24 billion, an increase of 4.8 percent year-on-year.

During the first half of 2012, the European debt crisis led to weak demand for Chinese products in the EU market, the largest market for China. Ningbo Port's import and export value with the EU totaled $ 17.21 billion, down 4 percent year-on-year, accounting for 17.7 percent of the total port trade value in the same period or 1.2 percentage points over the same period last year. Meanwhile, Ningbo Port's trade volume to its second largest market, the United States, hit $11.13 billion, an increase of 13 percent. The imports and exports to ASEAN, its third largest market, amounted to $ 5.81 billion, an increase of 8.4 percent.

Cargo and container throughput via Ningbo Port grew together

Ningbo Port container throughput reaching historic high in May

According to the latest statistics by Ningbo Port Co. Ltd., the container throughput of the port in May reached 1.462 million TEUs, surpassing the mark of 1.4 million TEUs for the first time, an increase of 12.3% over the same period last year, and setting the new historical high of monthly record.

In May, Ningbo Port made great efforts in developing new shipping routes and succeeded in opening seven new container routes. By the end of May, there had been 233 container routes, including 118 ocean routes, which account for 50.64% of the total number. It strengthened strategic cooperation with shipping companies to attract them to develop new transit paths centered on Ningbo Port. The port also focus on the development of water-water transit operation, resulting in a container throughput of 299,000 TEUs, up by 30% over the same period last year

Ningbo Port exports pick up foreign trade volume exceeded $ 80 billion in May

Ningbo Customs facilitating exports of aquatic products

The latest statistics released by Ningbo Customs show that in the first eight months of 2011 the total value of export of aquatic products amounted to 220 million US dollars, increased by 51.5% over the same period of last year. With the ending of the moratorium, the exports of aquatic products from the Ningbo port are sure to rise further.

Among the aquatic products exported, the live eel is the most popular with foreign customers in the first eight months. The total export value of live eel added up to 41.92 million US dollars, up by 22.7% over the same period of last year. Taking into consideration the fact that the export of aquatic products calls for a high speed of customs clearance, Ningbo Customs makes innovations to optimize its supervision mode and make efforts to facilitate the clearance. To be specific, the Customs adopts the "pre-declaring" mode for the bulk fresh seafood, and opens the "green passage" for fishing industry so that the fresh seafood can be promptly dealt with and pass the Customs as quickly as possible. In this way, the exporters may feel quite relieved.

It is said that for the first eight months this year, Ningbo's exports of aquatic products to Japan reached 89.77 million US dollars, up by 61.1% over the same period of last year.
