Industrial economy grows by 3.2%

It is learned from Ningbo Municipal Economic and Information Technology Commission that in the first two months of 2014, the above-scale industrial enterprises in Ningbo achieved a total added value fo 33.32 billion yuan, up by 3.2% over the same period of last year. Among the 35 industries, 21 (60%) saw a growth of industrial output value.
Statistics show that seven out of the 11 key industries with the output value of over five billion yuan achieved positive growth, while the four industries with negative growth are computer communication and other electronic equipment manufacturing (down by 9.1%), ferrous metal processing (down by 7.1%), oil processing (down by 4.1%) and electric power & thermal energy generating and supply (down by 3.2%).
Clues can also be seen from the power consumption of the related industries. In the first two months, the total industrial power consumption reached 5.25 billion kilowatt per hour, an increase of 7.2% over the same period of last year and 4.9 percentage points higher than the output value growth. Analysis by industrial insiders shows that if taken into consideration the extra consumption during the Spring Festival period, the actual growth rate is about 5%, 1.8 percentage points higher than the industrial growth rate. Also according to some experts,
due to the price decline of products in some key industries, the production reduction of some key enterprises and the lack of new projects, as well as the excessive capacity and insufficient demands of the domestic market, the beginning of the year witnessed an unsatisfying start. However, with the operation of some major projects during the second quarter of the year, the industrial production is expected to pick up in a steady way.
