Customs statistics show that the Ningbo Free Trade Zone imported a total of US$ 39.83 million of food from January to November, a year-on-year increase of 6.2 percent. At least 70 percent of the imported food are reported to have entered the downtown markets of Ningbo.
Ningbo imported 7,169,000 liters of wines, worth US$ 38,490,000, 90, increased by 4.4 percent over the same period last year. The average import price was US$ 5.4 per liter, up 8 percent over the same period last year. The top three wine exporters are France, Spain and Chile, with a respective export volume of 3.703 million liters, l, 1.23 million liters and 686,000 liters, adding up to 78.4 percent of the total wine imports for the same period. Spain is the fastest-growing wine exporter to Ningbo, with an increase of 1.1 times over the same period last year. Ningbo imported 205,000 liters of beer, worth US$ 312,000, a year-on-year increase of 4.8 times and 4.3 times, respectively. The biggest exporter is Germany who exported a total of 193,000 liters to Ningbo, an increase of 6.8 times over the same period last year, accounting for 94 percent of the total beer imports over the same period.
In addition, Ningbo imported 175 tons of olive oil, valued at US$ 913,000, an increase of 62.3 percent and 74.1 percent, respectively. The top three olive exporters to Ningbo are Spain, Australia and Tunisia, with export volumes of 88.9 tons, 36 tons and 27 tons respectively. Olive imports from the three countries account for 86.8 percent of total import volume. Australia is the fastest growing olive exporter to Ningbo with an increase of 2.6 times over the same period last year. No imports from Tunisia were reported last year.

On the afternoon of December 4, Ningbo-Kaohsiung Meeting of Trade Cooperation, a meeting jointly hosted by Ningbo Municipal Government and Kaohsiung City Committee of the Kuomintang, opened in Ningbo. Vice Mayor of Ningbo Hong Jiaxiang, and Vice Directors of Kaohsiung City Committee of the Kuomintang Lei Zugang and Li Yuwen were present at the meeting.
Ningbo is favorite place for Taiwan investors. By the end of 2011, Ningbo approved 2,3952 Taiwan-funded projects, with the investment totaling 19.6 billion US dollars and the contract foreign capital totaling 12.3 billion Us dollars. Ningbo and Kaohsiung have a good foundation for cooperation. Many investors of Kaohsiung favor Ningbo and their investment involve many fields including LED manufacturing, metal processing, and plantation and agricultural product processing.
At the meeting, Hong Jiaxiang expressed his welcome to the Taiwan delegation. He made a brief introduction of the economic and trade cooperation of Ningbo and Taiwan and put forward his proposal to further promote the economic and trade cooperation of Ningbo and Taiwan. At the meeting, Lei Zugang expressed his hope that Taiwan and Ningbo should further strengthen economic and trade cooperation and promote development of the two places.
Much discussion was made of the furthering of the economic and trade cooperation of Ningbo and Kaohsiung. Speakers at the meeting included officials from Ningbo Foreign Economic Cooperation Bureau, Ningbo Council for Promotion of International Trade and Ningbo Municipal Office of Taiwan Affairs.
