First deep-sea semi-submersible aquaculture platform launched in Xiangshan

After 17 hours of towing, the deep-sea semi-submersible aquaculture platform built by Xiangshan County, the first of its kind in Zhejiang Province, was successfully launched into the sea area at around 6am on August 3. The offshore construction and installation work has then officially begun.
“The installation of the platform takes three to five days. It is fixed to the seabed with eight anchor chains that are 400 meters long, and then subjected to sinking and floating tests at sea. After passing the inspection of the ship classification society, it can then carry out the breeding tests, with the main species of Daiqu yellow croaker.” said Liu Changjun, Deputy Director of Xiangshan County Fishery Bureau.
Reportedly, the platform is 82 meters long and 32 meters wide, with a height equivalent to seven floors of building and a working depth of 13 to 15 meters. Only the highest floor is exposed to the water. The effective water body for aquaculture reaches 36,000 cubic meters. It is highly intelligent and automated, and can achieve self-sufficiency in green energy. The biggest advantage is its strong ability to resist typhoons.
According to Xuan Lixin, who is in charge of the investment, the biggest challenge facing deep-sea aquaculture is frequent typhoons. The platform uses ballast tanks to adjust the center of gravity, buoyancy, and stability of the platform, with a lifting ability of over 10 meters, and can withstand the test of a super typhoon of level 17, thus ensuring its safety in aquaculture production.
“Upon completion of the offshore installation, we will debug the platform and improve its various functions. When the water temperature is suitable, we can start the first batch of trial breeding.” said Xuan Lixin. With the excellent water quality of the release area and the large ecological capacity of the sea area, the Daiqu yellow croaker can grow in a natural environment with a flavor closer to that of the wild species. The earliest batch of yellow croaker is expected to be launched before the next Spring Festival.
As is reported, the platform is equipped with such modern fishery production equipment as fish swarm monitoring system, aquaculture environment monitoring system, sea area monitoring system, and centralized management system for intelligent aquaculture. In adverse weather conditions, intelligent unmanned operation can be achieved through a remote command center. If operated in full production capacity, the platform is expected to produce 900,000 high-quality fish annually, with an output value of 40 million yuan.
As the aquaculture of Xiangshan County moves from the inner bay to the deep sea, it will continue to build two or three deep-sea aquaculture platforms to enhance the driving force of marine technology, achieve a common improvement in both the yield and quality of seafood aquaculture, and continuously meet consumers’ demand for seafood
