The imported fruits have become the new favorite of Ningbo people over the past few years. In 2012, over 7613 tons of foreign fruits were imported via Ningbo Port, up by 13.7% over the previous year.
With 3526 tons of imported fruits, mainly frozen fruits, the EU is the biggest source of import among other places. The majority of the 68 tons of imported cherry came from Italy. Among all the fruits, the longan from Thailand and banana from the Philippines are the most popular types, being the top two of the imports. What's more, besides the traditional imported fruits, other small varieties as dates from Saudi Arabia and fig from Turkey have also enter people's life.

According to a related meeting held on January 4, Ningbo has set 13 projects for the development of marine economy. Of the 13 projects, there are 8 key projects: high-efficient marine biological cultivation, marine biological medicine, marine equipment, Ningbo New-type Marine Biological Research Center, and Ningbo Biological Industrial Center of Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica, Chinese Academy of Sciences. There are 5 ordinary projects including Xiangshan Marine Biological R&D Project.
Reportedly, the marine economic innovative projects are organized by the Ministry of Finance and the National Bureau of Oceanography. The projects aim to promote the strategic emerging industries, and support some areas to establish demonstrative zones for the innovative development of marine economy. There are four funds for the projects: the special fund for strategic emerging industries, the fund for use of seas, the special fund for the studies of marine public welfare industries, and the special fund for the promotion of innovation of higher educational institutions.

On January 24, Ningbo Statistics Bureau held a press conference about the economic operation of Ningbo in 2012.
At the conference it was announced that in 2012 the GDP of Ningbo amounts 652.47 billion yuan. Calculated by comparable price, it rises by 7.8% year on year, leveling the average of the Province (8.0%) and the average of the country.
In 2012, the GDP of Ningbo amounts 652.47 billion yuan. Of the industries, the industrial output value reaches 27 billion yuan, increased by 1.6%; the added value of the secondary industry reaches 351.67 billion yuan, increased by 6.0%. Of the total, the industrial output value amounts to 317 billion yuan, increased by 6.0%; the added value of the tertiary industry amounts to 273.8 billion yuan, increased by 10.9%. According to Tang Baisheng, director of Ningbo Statistics Bureau, the recovery of the industrial economic is indispensible with the innovation and upgrading of enterprises.

According to the annual economic report released on January 23, in 2012, the income of Ningbo urban rural residents grows faster than that of GDP. The per capita net income of rural residents grows faster than the per capita disposable income of urban residents.
Statistics show that in 2012, the per capita disposable income for urban citizens is 37,902 yuan, increased by 11.3% above the previous year, and in real terms after adjusting for inflation increased by 9.4%. The per capital net income of the rural residents reaches 18,575 yuan, increased by 11.8%, and in real terms after adjusting for inflation increased by 10.0%. The income of both the urban and rural residents grows faster than that of GDP (7.8%).
On the other hand, In 2012, the per capital net income of the rural residents grows faster than that of the per capital net income of the urban residents, with the gap between cities and countryside further narrowed. Statistics show that the ratio of income of urban and rural residents reduced from 2.06 :1 to 2.05:1, lower than the average (3.10:1) of the country.
In addition, in 2012 the CPI growth rate of the city maintains low. The consumer price rose by 1.7% against the same period of the proceeding year, dropping by 3.6 points. respectively 0.9 and 0.5 points lower the averages of the country and Zhejiang. In this respect, Ningbo is the last of the 36 large and middle-sized cities of the country.
