Ningbo launches fish fry proliferation and release activities

On the morning of June 6th, the 9th National "Fish Release Day" main venue event was held at the Sailing Center of Asian Games in Songlan Bay, Xiangshan County. More than 5.5 million fry and species of yellow croaker, silver pomfret, black snapper, and other fish were released into the sea to supplement resources for the East China Sea fishing grounds.

This event is hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the People's Government of Zhejiang Province, and organized by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of Zhejiang Province and the People's Government of Ningbo. The theme of this year's "Fish Release Day" event is "Strengthening the Conservation of Aquatic Biological Resources, Promoting Harmonious Coexistence between Human and Nature". A total of 150 representatives from fishing authorities, democratic parties, fishing enterprises, fishermen, students, and group organizations participated in the release event.

At the event, the Xiangshan Songlan Mountain Aquatic Biological Release Platform was unveiled, the first of its kind in Ningbo.

The released fish fry and species are all bred by local fishery technology enterprises in Ningbo. At the release site of Sailing Center of Asian Games, groups of Daiqu yellow croaker, barracuda fish, silver pomfret, and black snapper fry swim happily in canvas bag fish ponds. Xu Wantu, the person in charge of Xiangshan Harbor Aquatic Seedlings Co., Ltd., said that more than 6000 large yellow croaker species released this time had been raised for a year, with an average weight of about 100g. "The survival rate of fish species is much higher than that of small fry, and the effect of reproduction and release will be better".

In the sea area of Nanjiushan, which is tens of nautical miles apart, live water vessels carry approximately 5.5 million fry of the Daiqu yellow croaker, which are also released simultaneously. Through net bags and pipes, schools of fish fry return to their "hometown" in the sea. At the event that day, three green turtles were also released.

The proliferation and release work in Ningbo is at the forefront of the country in terms of quantity, variety, and quality. According to the relevant person in charge of the Municipal Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Ningbo is expected to invest 16.8 million yuan in breeding and releasing this year, and plans to release more than 860 million seedlings of various aquatic organisms such as Daiqu large yellow croaker, yellow croaker, black snapper, brown pomfret, zygote of cuttlefish, tube horned snails, Chinese shrimp, Japanese shrimp, silver carp, bighead carp, grass carp, and indigenous crucian carp.

In the past three years, Ningbo has invested more than 65 million yuan in breeding and releasing and has released 4.2 billion aquatic seedlings in Xiangshan Harbor, Jiushan Islands and other sea areas, with an average annual release of more than 1 billion, covering more than 20 major local economic varieties.

In the display cabinets at the release site, live yellow croaker, silver pomfret, yellow croaker, swimming crab, and Chinese shrimp form a small "ocean world" that attracts everyone's attention and showcases the scientific and technological strength of Ningbo fishery research institutions and fishery enterprises in seawater fish, shrimp, and shellfish farming.

Proliferation and release are important means to protect fishery resources and promote marine ecological restoration. Si Liegang, director of Ningbo Ocean and Fisheries Research Institute introduced that the survey of marine resources shows that in recent years, the restoration effect of fishery resources in the main released waters has been significant. The replenishment rate of bred and released large yellow croaker to the population of large yellow croaker resources in the sea area has reached 30%; the replenishment rate of released Japanese shrimp to the population of Japanese shrimp resources in the sea area reached 15%; the replenishment rate of released black snapper to the population of black snapper resources in the sea area reached 50%, and the density of fish resources in the breeding area of clams increased by 58%.

On the other hand, proliferation and release have also helped fishermen increase production and income. For example, the input-output ratio of yellow croaker fish is 1:2.7, the input-output ratio of Daiqu large yellow croaker release is 1:2.98, and the input-output ratio of Japanese shrimp and three wart swimming crab is above 1:3. All of these have laid the foundation for the sustainable and high-quality development of marine fishing
