In August 2002, the core product of Ningbo Lubao Science and Technology Company adopted in the year in Hang-Ningbo Expressway. This product, result of the painstaking work of several years of the company, won the gold prize of a patent of China, the first one of its kind that Ningbo got.

In the past 10 years, this hi-tech company has been on the rise in its technological innovation. A related person of the company said that this year the company has obtained 2 patents, including 1 invention patent. So far, the patents the company has obtained has exceeded 50, including 22 patents for invention, 3 patents of the USA, and 2 of Japan and Europe.

This private enterprise may be a mirror of Ningbo for its industrial economic development. As the core of technologic innovation, intellectual properties are given more and more attention by enterprises of Ningbo. According an authority of Ningbo Municipal Bureau of Science and Technology, currently, 90% of expenditures on R&D is from enterprises. Over 80% of the national science projects are undertaken by enterprises. Over 60% patents are applied for and obtained by enterprises. Above 80% of the introduced talents are in enteprises. Of the state and provincial science and technology prizes, 80% are won by enterprises. Over two thirds of the listed companies are hi-tech enterprises.

said, the number of patents Ningbo was granted rose from 2,780 in 2002 to 37342 in 2011, increased by 33.46% annually. Statistics from the State Intellectual Property Bureau show in 2011, the applications for patents amounted to 47,582 and the patents granted amounted to 37,342, both ranking the first in Zhejiang. Among the 15 quasi-provincial cities of the country, Ningbo ranks No.2, only next to Shenzhen. In 2011 Ningbo surpassed Hangzhou in both the number of applications and the number of licensed patents, ranking the first in Zhejiang.

This tendency is going on. In the first half this year, the applications for patents and the patents granted in Ningbo reach 41,242 and 16,063 respectively, increased by 69.3% and 16.9% over the precious year. With respect to the application of patents, Ningbo surpassed Shenzhen, ranking the first of the quasi-provincial cities of the country.

A related person of Ningbo Municipal Intellectual Property Rights Bureau said that currently, Ningbo contributes to 18.8% of the economic aggregate of Zhejiang and accounts for 28.7% of the total of the patents granted to Zhejiang. Statistics show that by the end of 2011, Ningbo had been granted 120,600 patents.

In the past ten years, the overall science and technology of Ningbo has witnessed a leap forward development and this has laid down a good foundation for the new round of innovative development of the city.
