It's Happening....

Fresh seafood to flood in

It is learned from Jiangdong aquatic products trading area of Ningbo Aquatic Products Wholesale Market that the aquatic products caught after the Spring Festival will soon arrive at the port. It is estimated that from March 8, the volume of fresh seafood will greatly increase.

Early on the morning of March 6, several boats with fresh seafood were ushered in the Tongzhao Wharf of Chunhu Town in Fenghua County, and the seamen carried the boxes of aquatic products to the port, including croakers, yellow croakers and some other fish. "Since the sixth day of the first lunar month, some fishing boats have started fishing offshore. Some of the boats have returned with fresh aquatic products, mainly some small and economic fishes." said a person in charge of one of the fishing boats.

Besides fishing along the nearby waters, some of the deep-sea fishing boats will sail to the farther areas such as the south Yellow Sea. In addition to the small croakers and yellow croakers, the major fishes also include pomfret, squid, and hairtail. According to a fisherman from Tongzhao Village, due to the cold weather in recent days, the wind is strong in the East China Sea Fishing Ground, and they have to fish according to the wind conditions. On the 11th of the first lunar month, they went offshore and caught 18 boxes of pomfret. They can get about 40,000 yuan, as each box contains about 18 kilograms of pomfret and the price is about 120 yuan per kilo.

"The yellow croakers were delivered on March 7. They are very fresh, and you can see the red gill." said a vendor at the Jiangdong aquatic products trading area. According to him, this batch of yellow croakers was newly caught and the retail price of them is more expensive than the frozen yellow croakers by five to six yuan per kilo.

"With the returning of the fishing boats before the Spring Festival, the amount of fresh seafood during the holiday declined greatly. Most of the aquatic products in the vegetable markets and the wholesale market are from the stock before the festival." said a person from the trading area. The situation will soon be changed with the arrival of the newly caught seafood on March 8. With the increasing of the temperature after the Lantern Festival, the price will decrease further as the supply become abundant with the increase of catch and arrival of the cultured aquatic products.
