"Hello, please go straight ahead and you will see the waiting room." "The bus station is straight ahead. Which bus do you want to take?" These days in the Ningbo Railway Station, the young man Yang Bin often worked 9 hours per day to give passengers directions or help them carry luggage.
Yang Bin went to collage in 2013. After noticing the news that the newly-built Ningbo Railway Station was recruiting volunteers, he signed up and became a volunteer during the winter vacation “I have worked here for seven days before the Spring Festival." The freshman is a little shy when talking about his work, "Everyday I do not feel tired but feel fulfilled."
Like Yang Bin, Shen Liangmin and Wu Huichun who have retired are also Ningbo Railway Station volunteers. For the future life planning, these two women choose to be a volunteer. It is said, at present the number of Ningbo volunteers has rapidly climbed up to more than 850,000. The volunteer service content has become increasingly rich.
According to incomplete statistics, 411 urban and rural communities of Ningbo have established Lei Feng volunteer service centers, by which the community party organizations, community neighborhood committees, industry authorities and property companies can jointly set up the volunteer service mechanism to provide a variety of volunteer service projects for community residents, such as helping the vulnerable groups of communities, protecting the community environment and so on. Therefore, community volunteers have become the living Lei Feng around residents.
In addition to communities, all departments and units have also established Lei Feng volunteer service teams one after another, which have reached more than 10580. With the theme “care for others, the society and the nature”, these teams have designed three series of more than 20 activities including respecting the old, loving the young and assisting the disabled, caring for the migrant workers, alleviating the poverty and aiding the poor students, initiating charity programs, protecting the environment, donating blood, doing emergency rescue, and other voluntary services.
On December 5, 2012, Ningbo established a city-wide volunteer service platform, Ningbo 81890 Volunteer Service Center. Relying on this top service platform for better livelihood, it is possible for volunteers to directly reach those people who are in need of help.
