Trade in Jan Exceeds 56 billion Yuan

In the first month of the New Year, Ningbo’s foreign trade made a “good start”. According to statistics of foreign trade operation released by Ningbo Customs on Feb. 17, the total volume of Ningbo’s foreign trade rose by 3.1 % year on year to 56.48 billion yuan in January. If calculated in USD, it was 9.23 billion dollars, 6% year on year. And its monthly foreign trade made another breakthrough of over $9 billion. Among the 15 deputy provincial cities, Ningbo ranks third, only next to Shenzhen and Guangdong in trade volume.
Although this January coincided with the lunar New Year, Ningbo’s exports and imports was not affected. Instead, in order to finish the import and export procedures of goods before the arrival of the lunar New Year, all foreign trade enterprises in Ningbo speeded up their work flow. In mid-to-late January, the foreign trade had a blowout with the daily declaration forms handled amounting to a maximum of 23,136, far more than the usual amount of 10,000, which caused the demurrage of goods in the port of Ningbo. To deal with this problem, departments of customs, inspection, and ports applied technology to speed up the clearance of goods.
In terms of exporting products, the labor-intensive products still dominate. The exports of seven categories of goods including apparel and clothing accessories, textile yarn, small home appliances, plastic products, lamps and lanterns, furniture and parts and footwear totaled 12.95 billion yuan, an increase of 3.8%, which accounted for 36.6% of the city's overall exports for the same period. And its growth rate was 3.8% higher than that of the city's overall exports. The exports of mechanical and electronic products dropped 1.4% to 18.99 billion yuan, accounting for 53.7% of Ningbo’s total exports of the same period. And the high-tech exports dropped 6.9% to 2.16 billion yuan.
The foreign trade of private enterprises in Ningbo continues to grow steadily. It rose 0.6% to 30.02 billion yuan, accounting for 53.2% of Ningbo’s total foreign trade. The imports and exports of state-owned enterprises reached 6.26 billion yuan, an increase of 41% while the foreign trade of foreign-invested enterprises was 20.2 billion yuan, down 1.5%.
