Passenger and freight throughput of Ningbo Airport hits historical high

It is learned from Ningbo Airport that the summer vacation transport has come to an end. By September 2, the airport has completed 11160 flights with over 1.39 million passengers over the past two months, up by 18.7% and 15.9% respectively, while the freight throughput reached 16800 tons, up by 38.6% over the same period of last year. The passenger flow peak fell on August 19, when the freight passenger throughput reached 25900 and there were over 200 flights.

During July and August, Ningbo Airport maintained close ties with the airlines by adding some new flight routes, including Dalian-Ningbo-Changsha, Ningbo-Shenyang and Zhuhai-Ningbo-Zhengzhou, and restart the summer chart flights to and from Dunhuang, Ordos, Zhangye and Hailar.

In terms of the passenger types, the majority of the passengers are for tourism. Besides the traditional tourist destinations such as the Northeast and Northwest China, Japan and Korea, the Southeast Asia and European countries are also popular. Ningbo Airport has so far opened 15 international routes, and the newly added flights to Bali Island, Ho Chi Minh City and Boracay have provided more options for the tourists.

According to the statistics from the airport office of Ningbo Entry-exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, the entry-exit passenger flow during this summer period continued to increase. The entry-exit flights at Ningbo Airport reached 1707 with the passenger number being 228000, up by 16.8% and 14.8% over the same period of last year, both hitting a historical high. Specifically speaking, about 111000 passengers went to and came from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, accounting for 48% of the total, the first time to be below 50%, due to the addition of the new flights and the more flights to Thailand and Korea. In May 2015, the MERS broke out in Korea, resulting in the decrease of tourists to Korea, and the direct flights from Ningbo to Korean cities even stopped. With the elimination of the MERS in December 2015, Korea adopted the free visa policy for the Chinese and Southeast Asian group tourists. With this, the number of tourists to Korea reached 26500, accounting for 11.6% of the total entry-exit passenger flow, up by 126% over the same period of last year. The tours to Thailand were also popular, with the number of tourists increasing from 29500 in 2015 to 37600 this year, up by 27.5%. The main reasons for the popularity of tours to Thailand include the reasonable tour price and the rich tropical fruit resources in Thailand
