Chinese SME Global Development Forum held in Ningbo

The 2nd Chinese SME Global Development Forum was held in Ningbo from the morning of December 8. During the three-day session, some government leaders and international experts will gather in Ningbo to discuss on the topic of "SMEs: new engine for the global economic recovery", including Lee Myung-bak, former president of South Korea, Mr. Raffarin, former premier of France, Carlos Magarinos, Former UNIDO Director General and Chairman of the Global Alliance of SMEs, and Long Yongtu, the Chief WTO Negotiator for China.

The first day of the forum focused on a heated phenomenon, that is, over 98% of the amount,  over 50% of the output value and a majority of employment opportunities belong to small and medium-sized enterprises, which matter most to the recovery of the global economy. A large group of leading enterprises stem from SMEs, such as Microsoft, HP, Cisco, Amazon, Yahoo and Alibaba.

 

This year's forum, jointly sponsored by the Global Alliance of SMEs, Zhejiang Provincial Association of SMEs and Ningbo Entrepreneurial Association, aims to provide a high-end international exchange platform for international business leaders, experts and scholars on SME studies and talents from SMEs, so that they can have a chance to discuss about the tasks, growth points and challenges for the SMEs I China and find out solutions for some problems.

On December 8, Yu Hongyi, Deputy Secretary of Ningbo Municipal Party Committee, had a meeting with Mr. Lee Myung-bak and his delegation coming to Ningbo to attend the forum.

Secretary Yu extended welcome to the South Korean delegation and introduced to them the economic and social development of Ningbo. She said South Korea and Ningbo have had the cultural and economic exchanges for over a thousand years, and the Korean Embassy in Ningbo is the best witness. In recent years, the two parties have made active exchange and cooperation in such fields as economy, culture, tourism and medicine. It is hoped that further cooperation can be made in other fields including marine economy, cultural tourism and garment industry. Some enterprises and institutions are encouraged to carry out deeper exchange and cooperate on a more extensive basis.

Mr. Lee said that although this was the first time for him to come to Ningbo, he felt quite comfortable and the cultural history and economic development of Ningbo left him a deep impression. He hoped that South Korean and Ningbo could strengthen mutual understanding and carry out more active cooperation in different fields.
