29 outdoor water play areas bring back the joy of childhood

“The water here is very clear, the surrounding environment is beautiful, and the transportation is also convenient. I was attracted here. I brought my child here to play in the water and recall my 'happy childhood'. Last weekend, another outdoor water play area in Ningbo - Meixi Shicun section of Tangxi in Yinzhou, was officially put into use, and some citizens came to try it out as soon as possible.

In the shape of dragon scale, with 6500 square meters of water area, patrolled by dedicated personnel, and protected by 6 cameras, the new water play area not only looks beautiful, but also is very safe.

When selecting the site in May this year, several villages along Meixi were competing for this project because it could attract people and contribute to rural revitalization, "said Ran Jun, the director of Tangxi Police Station. This is the second water play area in Tangxi to

further meet the water play needs of the masses.

“We need to find ways to meet the reasonable needs of the masses, "said Hong Xueling, deputy captain of the Public Security Brigade of the Yinzhou Branch of the Ningbo Public Security Bureau. Since last year, Yinzhou Public Security has adhered to the principle of "blocking and dredging" to prevent drowning, and has built a total of five water play areas in the four towns of Zhanqi, Dongwu, Hengxi, and Tangxi with a large floating population.

Drowning prevention aims to build a "net" to safeguard life, which is a livelihood project and moral governance project that affects thousands of households. These water play areas in Yinzhou are a microcosm of the city's efforts to prevent drowning.

Since 2018, Ningbo has launched a nationwide drowning prevention campaign led by the public security, with the government, schools, families, and society working together to build a "four in one" drowning prevention system. By 2023, drowning prevention projects will be included in the Ningbo Municipal People's Livelihood Project, and Ningbo will achieve a "six consecutive decline" in drowning deaths. The voice of Ningbo appeared at the National Conference on Water Safety held in May last year.

As a coastal city, Ningbo has over 4700 small mountain ponds and reservoirs, more than 4200 rivers, and a large number of migrant workers have a strong demand for swimming in summer, which puts considerable pressure on drowning prevention work. Therefore, while "preventing", we should also consider "loosening".

It is reported that from 2023, Ningbo will be the first in the province to start the construction of outdoor water play areas. By establishing corresponding construction standards and implementing a series of safety measures, 25 outdoor water play areas were gradually put into use in the summer of that year. These locations welcome over 9000 water players every day.

The construction of the water play area not only reduces problems such as wild swimming, but also contributes to the local tourism economy. Points such as Shanxi at the mouth of Fenghua Creek, Yuelonglang Bridge in Ninghai, and Dragon-scale Dam in Lubu, Yuyao have become "internet famous points". The relevant person in charge of the city's drowning prevention office said that many citizens have praised the water play area after experiencing the "joy of childhood".

Seeing the benefits, many places have started the construction mode, and this year four new water play areas have been added. As of now, there are 29 water play areas in the city
