Anonymous philanthropist makes large donations on 15th consecutive years

Last Monday morning, staffers in Ningbo Charity Federation opened the mail to find a big gift: a 750,000 yuan ($123,502) anonymous donation. The donation came in registered letter with the signature of "Ranqi". Chen Haiying, Deputy Secretary-General of Ningbo Charity Federation recognized the donor the as soon as she saw the familiar handwriting on the envelope. It was from "Shunqiziran". Ningbo Charity Federation first received 50,000 yuan ($8,233)from "Shunqiziran" at the end of 1999 and another 200,000 yuan ($32,934) at the end of 2000. Since then, the organization received anonymous donation from the same donor every year, the amount varying from 50,000 yuan to 750,000 yuan. So far, the philanthropist has made a donation totaling 6.02 million yuan. "Shunqiziran" also made a number of donations to earthquake victims and poor families, making his donation exceed 10 million yuan ($1.65 million).

"Dear 'Shunqiziran', we respect your wishes to be anonymous, but we would like to know your suggestions on the usage of the money. If possible, please write to us," Chen Haiying said to the anonymous donor through the media this Tuesday. Though staffers have long been wishing to meet the donor for 15 years, they stopped looking for him 13 years ago to respect his wish to be anonymous. CCTV also reported the story of "Shunqiziran" on Tuesday’s national news program "Xinwen Lianbo", or News Broadcast.

Community doctor donates blood stem cells

Zhu Haiping, a community doctor in Ningbo, donated his blood stem cells for a leukemia patient in Shenzhen on Monday. Zhu Haiping is a doctor in Ximen Community Health Center of Haishu District. He was the 21st blood stem cells donors in Ningbo, and the 159th in Zhejiang Province.

Zhu Haiping sounded quite relaxed at 14:10 after he finished the marrow collection in Zhejiang Provincial Hospital of TCM on Monday morning. He told the reporter on the phone, "I just finished the marrow collection. Everything is fine and I will be able to go home tomorrow."

The 39-year-old doctor signed up for China Marrow Donor Program in May 28, 2009. "I signed up for the program with my colleagues and almost forget it after such a long time," said Zhu Haiping. He was informed on August 15, 2013 that he was a match for a man dying of leukemia.

Man held after calling emergency line 400 times

A man from a village in Ningbo's Xiangshan county in Zhejiang Province was detained for 10 days, after he "irresponsibly" called the country's emergency number 1-1-0 nearly 400 times this year - concocting all sorts of lies and wild stories.

The man, in his 40s, surnamed Xi, most recently called the emergency line on Thursday, claiming that he wanted to "kill people."

After putting up with Xi's harassing telephone antics for a year, local police decided to put a stop to his inappropriate calls, tracking him down to his hometown village of Hepu, and brought him in for detention.

Xi admitted to making some calls for non-emergent reasons.

"When I got upset I'd call 1-1-0 because I was at least able to talk to someone," Xi was quoted as saying by Ningbo-based newspaper Modern Gold Express on Monday.

Xi also confessed to sometimes telling operators whatever came to his mind, even making up fires or accidents.
