Ten years have passed since the start of the construction of the eastern new town in 2005. According to the statistics from the commanding office of the eastern new town construction, so far over 96 billion yuan has been invested in the construction, with the seizure of over 10,000 mu of land and the demolition of about 3.35 million square meters of land. On a total construction area of 10.4 million square meters, 64 projects have been completed and still 34 under construction. 40 kilometers of road has been completed, and there is a new addition of green water area of 763,000 square meters.
Tall buildings have sprung up on the plain, where there used to be wastelands and farmlands. Currently, more than 90 enterprises, over 80 financial enterprises and over 700 enterprises involved in international trade exhibition have settled down in the Shipping Center. The three major industries have developed well, and the related supporting industries, such as insurance, accounting and legal services, have been attracted to the new town. A large group of commercial complex is speeding up their construction, such as Ningbo Center, Light of City, the "gateway area" and Intime City. The emerging industries have been introduced to build the regional industrial characteristics with the settlement of such enterprises or institutions as the Classification Society, Southeast Logistics, Lesli Multinational Enterprises Purchase, Balance Auto Insurance, and East China Sea Shipping Insurance

The second Ningbo Citizen Culture & Art Festival will be held from September 1 to November 30, with the theme of "culture unites the city power, art lights people's dream", and over 190 cultural events will be staged one by one.
According to Zhang Aiqin, Deputy Director of the organizing committee of the festival, centered on the central urban area, this year's session will stage various activities at both the municipal and county (district) levels. The activities at the municipal level will include the opening ceremony of the festival as well as the "cultural evening fair", 70 activities (themed respectively singing and dancing, image of Ningbo, book reading and opera shows), and the closing ceremony. There will be 122 activities organized at the county or district level, covering various cultural and art competitions, writing, painting and photography exhibitions, folk cultural celebration and performance, grassroots cultural shows, and cultural and art training and lectures.
It is worth mentioning that the opening ceremony to be held at Ningbo Culture Square on the evening of September 1 will be a cultural and art carnival. Over 600 performers, both professional and amateur, will perform various shows to demonstrate such cultural characteristics of Ningbo as a historic cultural city, an international port city and a city full of love. During the six-day "cultural fair", the major events will include Ningbo cultural talent show, the elegant cheongsam show, the square dance competition, the children's talent show and the animation and game carnival.
