"Haixin Cup" Chess Open ended

The 6th "Haixin Cup" Chess Open of Ningbo was held at the Cultural Center of Gulin Town of Yinzhou District on May 6, attracting about 70 players of Chinese chess from the chess clubs of the districts or counties and some chess teams from Gulin Town and Baiyun Street. After a day's competition, Qiu Dong, a national chess master, won the first place with an all-win result, and the second and third places went to Yu Weilong and Li Ding respectively.

"I'm quite fond of playing chess, the chess playing online is not my cup of tea. I just like playing face to face." said Wang Haichao, who have founded and financed the competition for the past six years. He hopes to provide a platform for the chess players to communicate with each other.  "I take part in the competition each year, and I even entered the top eight last year. It is now part of my life, and I'm quite content with my state." he added

Ningbo Internet Cultural Festival Draws the Attention of Millions of Netizens

On May 4th, the annual Ningbo Internet Cultural Festival was unveiled, marking the 10th year since the event started.

Ningbo Internet Cultural Festival has been upholding the principle of creating a wholesome and benign Internet culture since its initiation with an activity to gather articles on the topic of “A Good Internet Environment Requires Your Contribution”. This year, an activity was launched to publicize Green Internet in school, which was carried out in such forms as lecturing, discussion and extra-curricular activities. Hundreds of Grassroots Performers Put on Shows about Ningbo on CCTV

Performed by hundreds of grassroots performers, aiming to show the demeanor of Ningbo citizens as a whole, Gathering Talented Artists of Ningbo had its premiere in CCTV-3 at 3:23 p.m. of May 2.

Gathering Talented Artists is the first large-scale program launched by CCTV-3(Variety Channel) for ordinary people to exhibit their artistic talents. This year, the upgraded version of the program collects and selects unique performances of their local characteristics from culture centers across the country and launches them in terms of their contents. Ningbo was incorporated in the first batch of selected cities for the program in February. 

There are 7 performances in Gathering Talented Artists of Ningbo cohosted by comperes from CCTV and Ningbo, Guan Tong and Awei respectively, with recording starting in March 27. Four Artists Listed in “New Talents Plan”

According to the Municipal Folk Artists Association, four young artists were selected into the Xinfeng (“New Talents” )Plan” (arts and crafts) of 2017 on May 2nd, including Wen Guoli (ST color porcelain), Wang Huaner(hair embroidery), Xu Minjie (wheat straw patchwork) and Xu Jie (bamboo-rooting carving).

Since it started in 2013, the “New Talents Plan” has been aiming at bringing up young artistic talents in painting, calligraphy, photography and folk art. By professional training, field trips, artwork promotion, holding exhibitions, publishing painting albums, participating in national important training plans and other ways, the plan develops the young artistic talents and forms the artistic reserve force of Zhejiang. Since the “New Talents Plan” of 2017 started in the second half of last year, about hundred artists from 10 cities have entered the activity, whose works involve celadon porcelain, sword, stone carving, wood carving, shadow puppet, paper cutting, illumination and many other categories. The Longest Fishing Moratorium Starts on May 1

At 12:00 on May 1, the Fishing Moratorium of East China Sea officially started. In the next 138 days, fresh fish from East China Sea would not be available for Ningbo citizens. In recent years, overfishing has been on a rise, causing low fish stocks. In January 2017, the Ministry of Agriculture issued a notice on the adjustment of fishing moratorium, making big adjustment to the fishing moratorium schedules. According to the notice, the fishing moratorium of all China's waters will begin from 12 o’clock of May 1 to 12 o’clock of September 16. The moratorium will last nearly one month more than before, which is the longest since the establishment of moratorium system 22 years ago. 

With the fishing boats returning into the harbors, the price of seafood in Ningbo has been rising gradually. Some fishermen started to stock up on seafood, planning to sell it with a higher price after the holiday of May Day. As a result, trading volume of seafood in wholesale markets was down by more than 300 tons to only half of that in high seasons. The price of pomfret, red ointment crabs, octopus, mackerel and other seafood has risen by nearly 30% in 15 days. "The stock of fresh seafood is decreasing while there is still a high market demand.” said a seafood seller. According to him, the price of the seafood that had not been very popular has also rised dramatically during the May Day holiday to its highest record in 2017
