On the afternoon of October 16, the "Turkey Day" of "2021 Approaching the Asian Countries of the "Belt and Road"" was held at Ningbo Library.
The ancient Silk Road started in China and ended in Turkey on land. Turkey is also an important participant in China’s “One Belt, One Road” Initiative (BRI). Ningbo, founded 1,200 years ago, has gradually become an important port city for foreign trade and cultural exchanges since the Tang Dynasty. It is one of the important channels for interconnection between China and the world, and one of the important starting points of the "Maritime Silk Road".
The economic, trade and cultural exchanges between Ningbo and Turkey has a long history. In July 2002, Turkey Cimtas (Ningbo) Steel Structure Manufacturing Co., Ltd. was established in Ningbo; in August 2008, the Ningbo Folk Art Troupe, representing China, participated in the opening ceremony tour of the Izmir International Cultural Festival in Turkey. Folk arts such as dragons, Xiangshan fishing drums, tea-picking dances, and fishing song chants amazed the locals in Turkey; in July 2020, the first subway line by Ningbo CRRC Industrial Base became the main public transportation on Istanbul's new airport line.
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Turkey, and to strengthen the cultural contribution for the joint construction of the "Belt and Road", with the support of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Ningbo Municipal People’s Government, Ningbo Library launched four characteristic activities, including the "Travel to a City" tour sharing, "Appreciating a Song" music sharing, "Appreciating a Painting" art sharing, and "Tasting a Delicacy" food sharing. Readers who participated in the event said that they can fully experience the exotic customs and realize the charm of Turkish culture and art without going abroad.
At the event, the Turkish Consul General in Shanghai, Hüseyin Emre Engin, presented books to the Ningbo Library, which further enriched the library collections in Sister Cities. They will be exhibited in the "Turkish Window".
In order to deepen readers’ understanding of Turkey, Ningbo Library has also set up a "Turkish Window" display space in the Sister City Study of the Special Literature Area on the third floor, which integrates Turkish themed book fairs, humanities and customs photo exhibitions, and video exhibitions. It will last for three months
