With two photos taken by the mobile phone and the questionnaire answered, one can get a free Traditional Chinese Medicine report on one’s body constitution, as well as tips on diet and exercise. It is learned from Ningbo Health Service Information Center that recently, the smart TCM system has been launched online in the “Health Ningbo” applet of AliPay.
Five steps to get the body constitution report
Traditional Chinese medicine divides the human body constitution into nine types. In accordance with the constitution, diet and exercise plans can be arranged, which is greatly beneficial to health. However, many people are not sure what kind of constitution type they belong to. Recently, the information center has independently developed and constructed an algorithm model, which allows citizens to independently evaluate their TCM constitution through mobile devices.
According to Hu Xiayu, an engineer from the Application Promotion Department of the center, five steps should be in place.
Step one, open the Health Ningbo applet (if no health file has been created, the health file should be created first) of AliPay.
Step two, click on the “Smart Traditional Chinese Medicine” column.
Step three, enter the constitution identification evaluation page by clicking on the “TCM constitution identification” button in the self evaluation module or by clicking on the “TCM constitution identification” button at the bottom.
Step four, take and upload tongue and facial images, and fill out the Traditional Chinese Medicine Constitution Identification Questionnaire (33 questions for elderly people aged 65 and above, and 60 questions for those under 65).
Step five, the system quickly generates a TCM constitution identification report through big data and AI technology, and provides suggestions on diet and exercise.
With these steps, it took eight minutes for the reporter to obtain the exclusive TCM constitution identification report. The result was a “peaceful constitution”. The system also provided specific physical analysis and health recommendations.
Collection and analysis of facial and tongue images
Traditional Chinese medicine emphasizes “observing, listening, asking questions, and taking the pulse”. Is it accurate if the body constitution analysis report is obtained through analyzing photos and completing questionnaires?
According to Hu Xiayu, the commonly used TCM constitution analysis reports on the internet are mainly generated by answering questionnaires. The collection of facial and tongue photos is a peculiar characteristic of the evaluation system developed in Ningbo, which is also the key aspect of “observing”. By combining it with questionnaire analysis, it is possible to achieve the basic goal of “observing, listening and asking questions”.
Hu said that citizens can improve the accuracy of personal evaluations in two ways. One is to answer the questionnaire based on the actual situation, and the other is to improve the accuracy of the photos. For example, one should turn off the beautifying and filtering functions to take photos (in the case of direct shooting, the system will automatically turn off the beautifying function).
The staff remind that online body constitution analysis is only for reference. If one has any questions or illnesses, he or she should consult a doctor online or offline.
According to a related person in charge from the center, the launch of the Ningbo Smart TCM System marks a substantial step forward in the reform of “one-time TCM prescription”. By building a smart traditional Chinese medicine digital application portal and health management platform, Ningbo aims to create a full process medical and health service that includes pre-hospital constitution identification, medical appointment registration, in-hospital intelligent voice electronic medical records, post-hospital online TCM prescription issuance, medical insurance settlement, delivery of TCM herbal medicine to home, and intelligent post-hospital follow-up. This will effectively accelerate the implementation of traditional Chinese medicine inheritance and innovation actions, and achieve a new closed-loop service model of “screening, diagnosis, treatment, and management” for TCM disease prevention and treatment. At present, the Smart TCM System has cooperated with eight traditional Chinese medicine hospitals in the city, providing over 3,000 citizens with comprehensive TCM services for the prevention of diseases
