Ningbo will host United Nations' International Procurement Symposium

On September 7th, it was learned from the official website of the United Nations that the 2024 United Nations International Procurement Symposium (hereinafter referred to as the "IPS Conference") will be held in Ningbo from November 13th to 14th this year.

Just this week, invitation letters signed as "Ningbo Municipal People's Government" were delivered via email to 12 major United Nations procurement agencies, including the United Nations Secretariat, the United Nations Development Programme, and the United Nations Population Fund.

The IPS Conference is currently the most authoritative, high specification, and highly professional benchmark conference in the field of United Nations procurement. This is the first time it has been held in Asia.

International public procurement is an important component of international trade. As the world's largest international organization and the largest economic and technological exchange platform,

the total procurement of United Nations agencies is steadily increasing and is expected to remain at $25 billion this year.

In previous years, IPS conferences were usually held in Europe. But since 2018, the United Nations has turned its attention to Asia, which accounts for 32% of its total procurement volume, to China, the world's largest developing country with a huge supply chain foundation, and ultimately chose to hold the IPS conference in Ningbo.

The first IPS conference in Asia chooses Ningbo. What are the advantages of Ningbo? It is reported that in order to promote the construction of long-term cooperative relationships with relevant UN agencies, Ningbo has organized enterprises to participate in UN procurement themed activities multiple times over the years, and held the China Ningbo UN Procurement Promotion Conference in September last year, helping nearly 110 enterprises successfully register in the UN global market. The representative office of the United Nations Development Programme in China sent a thank-you letter stating that Ningbo's thriving manufacturing and foreign trade service industries, as well as its enormous potential to provide innovative methods and solutions, can provide support for the sustainable procurement of the United Nations Development Programme.

IPS conference is not just about holding a meeting. In the context of the current complex and severe international economic and trade situation, the UN procurement business has the advantages of tariff exemption, low risk of foreign exchange collection, market stability, and avoidance of trade barriers. It has potential dividends and spillover effects for enterprises to skillfully use international economic and trade rules to enhance international competitiveness, share international supplier databases to take more international orders, and explore the market of countries jointly building the "the Belt and Road"
