Platform building boosts vitality of scientific innovation

Recently, China Association for Science and Technology announced the selection results of the 2023 “Scientific and Technological Innovation of China” lists:Ningbo Research Institute of Fudan University, located in the Qianwan New Area, was successfully selected as a new research and development institution and became one of the top 10 on the list of “Innovation Facilitating Organizations”. The “high-performance ultra-low jitter phase-locked loop clock chip technology” of Ora Semiconductor of the Qianwan New Area was included in the list of “Leading Technologies”, as one of the five projects selected for this list in Zhejiang Province.
“The ‘Scientific and Technological Innovation of China’ lists represent the melody of innovation-driven development, to meet the needs of the national science and technology development plan and major national strategies. The Qianwan New Area stands out thanks to the ‘hard power’ forged by major platforms”, said a related person in charge from the Qianwan New Area Management Committee.
In recent years, Qianwan New Area has, by adhering to the leading function of technology, continuously strengthened platform support, and focused on building itself into a “source of innovation” represented by new research and development institutions and a “strong magnetic field” for investment attraction represented by high-end industrial parks. At present, some leading platforms are accelerating, including the National Automobile Product Quality Inspection and Testing Center of China Automotive Research Institute (Zhejiang Province), the second phase of the Qianwan Park of Ningbo Institute of Materials of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Wide Band-gap Semiconductor Materials and Devices Research Institute of Ningbo Institute of Fudan University. The digital economy industrial park and the strategic emerging industrial park are also racing against the clock, to provide ample space for broadening the new track and forging a new force. According to statistics, the main industrial platforms to be completed in Qianwan New Area are expected to cover an area of about 1.7 million square meters this year.
To cultivate new innovative forces. Currently, a group of new research and development institutions are injecting new momentum into the development of the industrial development of the area. Recently, Fudan Hangzhou Bay Science and Technology Innovation Park was rated as excellent in the “national examination” of science and technology enterprise incubators. With the large ecosystem of the Ningbo Research Institute of Fudan University, the innovation park has introduced over 100 high-level talents and successfully incubated over 200 innovation and entrepreneurship projects in Ningbo, with a total investment of four billion yuan in innovation and entrepreneurship. In the field of new energy vehicles, such innovation platforms as the Zhejiang Provincial Green Intelligent Vehicle and Parts Technology Innovation Center and Geely Automobile Research Institute are striving for excellence. Empowered by the “industrial brains”, the main models of new energy vehicles in Qianwan New Area achieved a total industrial output value of 15.27 billion yuan in the first half of this year, up by 34.8% year on year.
To build better platforms. Recently, the Trelleborg new materials project, with a total investment of 80 million yuan, has been put into operation in the third phase of the Digital Economy Industrial Park, and it took less than half a year from agreement signing to project landing. According to a person in charge from Haichuang Group, the operator of the industrial park, relying on the “building while attracting investment” model, enterprises can plan and layout corresponding facilities in advance, which will greatly reduce the cost and time of later renovation. Meanwhile, companies can first “locate and lock” their desired site under construction and temporarily relocate to other parts for “settling in”. After the site is delivered, they can then move to the new location. The efficiency-oriented service model has attracted numerous high-quality enterprises to settle down. According to statistics, over the first half of this year, the Digital Economy Industrial Park and the Strategic Emerging Industrial Park have introduced 19 enterprises in the fields of new materials, digital economy, and life and health, with a total investment of over 3.4 billion yuan, and more than 70 companies are under negotiation to sign contracts for settling down.
