Ningbo’s tourism turns over 40 million yuan

Despite the complicated situation home and abroad, in the first half this year the tourism industry in Ningbo has still made new progress. According to Ningbo Municipal Tourist Administration, in the first half this year, the income from tourism totals 39.95 billion yuan, and the city received 28,108,000 domestic tourists, increased by 7.32% and 8.09% year on year.
In this period, the tourism industry in Ningbo weathered the severe tests like the bird flu. Overseas tourism maintained its rapid growth. The tourist agencies in the city organized 274,700 tourists to foreign countries, up by 51.4% year on year. Compared with the previous year, the growth rate of overseas tourism is the highest, with its year-on-year growth amounting to 60.11%, more than the figure to Hong Kong and Macao. Tourists to Hong Kong and Macao numbered 89,400, increased by 39.39% above the same period of the previous year. In the first five months this year, the most favored destinations are Hong Kong, Macao, South Korea, Taiwan and Thailand.

Statistics show that the city received 556,800 tourists from foreign countries, increased by 6.36% year on year. The turnover in foreign currency of the tourist industry reached 357 million US dollars, increased by 2.37 year on year. A related person says that the lower growth rate of foreign currency income than that of the tourists indicates that the city still needs to improve the consumption market for the overseas tourists.
“In recent years, there has been a great demand for overseas tourism, and this has become a highlight in the tourism market,” said a related person from the Tourist Administration of Ningbo.
The same person said, the newly opened Ning-Hang-Yong High Speed Railway will be a great benefit for the tourism economy for the next half this year for it improves the geographic position of Ningbo. The high speed railway will bring great changes to the traffic for the people along the railway. And related departments in tourism should be fully prepared, improving the supporting facilities for the radical increase of tourists in holidays and festivals.
