2014 Ningbo-Hong Kong Economic Cooperation Forum opened

2014 Ningbo-Hong Kong Economic Cooperation Forum was convened on July 31st. Guests from both home and abroad attended the opening ceremony. Lu Yongxiang, vice chairman of the 11th Standing Committee of National People’s Congress was present, and Liu Qi, secretary of municipal party committee, member of the Province Standing Committee and Mayor Lu Zhiyue addressed the ceremony.
Sun Xiangyi, Economic Minister of Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in Hong Kong, Li Lu, Education and Science Minister of Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in Hong Kong, Wu Kejian, director of Education Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administration Region, Fang Sunwen, vice president of Hong Kong Trade Development Bureau and Wu Zhihua attended the ceremony.
Liu Qi said that on August 1st 30 years ago, Deng Xiaoping initiated the instruction to mobilize Ningbonese all over the world to build Ningbo. On the special day, we are gathering in the beautiful Ningbo to host activities like Ningbo-Hong Kong Economic Cooperation Forum so as to develop the spirit of Ningbo Business Group and gather the huge power of them, thus encouraging people in Ningbo to develop Ningbo’s economy and the economy of Ningbo people and build Ningbo into a beautiful home that all people from Ningbo will be proud of. 12 years ago, the first Ningbo-Hong Kong Economic Cooperation Forum proposed by the patriotic Mr. Gu Guohua, was successfully held in Ningbo. Since then, people from both sides worked closely and have made great achievements. Up to now, 6015 enterprises from Hong Kong have invested in Ningbo; 10 Ningbo companies have been listed in Hong Kong; 102 Ningbo companies have set up branches in Hong Kong. Hong Kong has become the largest overseas investment source and important business partner of Ningbo, and Ningbo has become the hot destination of investment for Hong Kong businesses.
Liu said, this year’s conference, with the theme of “inherit and develop together to achieve great success”, is a happy anticipation for the further cooperation of both sides as well as a review of the 12 years’ cooperation. Hong Kong, highly internationalized world metropolis, and Ningbo, a city with great potential in the southern economic center of Yangtze River Delta, can explore more opportunities for cooperation and achieve a mutual beneficial and win-win development on a higher level. Now, Ningbo is at the crucial moment for overall further reform and accelerating innovative transformation. We sincerely hope that both sides can take the forum as a new starting point to establish closer relationship in foreign trade, port logistics, financial innovation, R&D, city construction, culture, education and medical care.
