Foreign trade of Ningbo to grow steadily this year

Statistics of Ningbo Customs show that in January this year, the total import and export volume amounted to 8.73 billion US dollars, increased by 6.5% year on year. Of the total, the import is 3.09 billion US dollars, increased by 14.8%; the export totals 5.64 billion US dollars, increased by 2.5%. Among the 15 quasi-provincial cities of the country, Ningbo ranks the 3rd, only next to Shenzhen and Guangzhou.
The import and export of private enterprises increased by 11.9% year on year, 5.4 points higher than the average of Ningbo.
EU and USA are still the major markets for the export of Ningbo and ASEAN has replaced Japan, becoming the 3rd larges trade partner of Ningbo. The biggest increase of import is in the necessities, especially olive oil, beer, natural honey, and coffee.
According to Sang Baichuan, professor of the international economic institute of the University of International Business and Economics, the foreign trade this year is still in difficulty, though the hardest time has passed. The economy of USA is recovering slowly. Japan and the EU are going out of the European debt crisis. Therefore the situation of foreign trade this year will be better than in 2012. It is expected to grow steadily, at a slow rate of about 8%.
