Organ Transplant Meeting held in Ningbo

2014 Ningbo Organ Transplant Annual Meeting was held in No.2 Hospital of Yinzhou. Kidney transplant expert and president of the host hospital Yao Xuping said that the membership of OPO in Ningbo is not standard enough. The ratio of medical workers and staff from the same hospital is too high. He hoped that more medical ethnics experts, sociologists, lawyers and volunteers could join the work and push ahead the organ transplant work.
According to him, up to November 6, 2014, there have been altogether 51 donations in our city, including 11 female donators, 6 local donators and 6 children donators. 41 livers, 101 kidneys and 24 corneas have been successfully donated. These organs were allocated to 5 transplant centers in the province, including Zhejiang No.1 Hospital, Yinzhou No.2 Hospital, Lihuili Hospital, Ningbo No.2 Hospital and Ningbo Ophthalmic Hospital. Up to November 5, 2014, 700 volunteers have registered for organ donation. However, more than 470 patients have registered for kidney transplant.
OPP refers to the transplant team established to collect organs but is independent from hospitals, which is responsible for the medical evaluation, data collection of organs and the collection, allocation, transportation of organs and the transfer to the transplant hospitals. Owing to the low social exposure and unbalanced regional development, OPO is a new thing in our country. People know little about it and their support for the organ donation and acquisition is not enough.
"Now, we have 7 coordinators of state level in our hospital. But I hope more active experts of medical ethics, sociologists, lawyers and volunteers can join the transplant team," said Yao Xuping.
