Ningbo to become "strong design city"

The "3-year action plan for Ningbo's creative and design industry" has been put forward recently to foster and develop a creative and design industry that fulfills the international standards and has strong Ningbo characteristics, and to create the industrial and city brand of "designed in Ningbo".
Creative and design industry is one of the eight key strategic emerging industries of the city. According to the action plan, based on the reality of industrial development, Ningbo will focus on the development of such key areas as industrial design, advertising media and architectural design. Efforts will also be made to develop the design of such industrial products as electronic appliances, automobile and parts, equipment manufacturing and medical devices, promote the advertising planning, creativeness, design and production of new media, and create such design integration as smart home and interior design of public space.
Within the following three years, Ningbo will gradually form the industrial chain of the design system, and enhance the added value of designs. By 2015, Ningbo will have two state-level industrial design centers, 50 province-level or city-level industrial design centers, one collaborative innovation center for textile and garment industry, one collaborative innovation center for household appliance industry, ten decorative design engineering enterprises with a turnover of over 500 million yuan, and eight advertising media enterprises with a turnover of over 100 million yuan.
In the meanwhile, Ningbo will actively encourage professional design teams from colleges or universities to apply for municipal innovation teams jointly with enterprises concerned and encourage qualified designers to take active part in the professional qualification evaluation for senior designers. By attracting leading high-end talents and establishing the protection mechanism for intellectual property, Ningbo will form the comprehensive protection system of intellectual property that covers the whole process of design, production and distribution, and improve the trade platform for creative design and intellectual property.
