Ningbo makes a historical new high in investment in public traffic

This year, Ningbo Public Traffic Company put into use 129 buses of new energies, 96% of which are up to the National Grade III Emission Standard. It is learned that this year the financial support to public traffic will reach 800 million yuan, a historical new high in the investment in public traffic.

In the past five years, Ningbo has put into agenda the development of public traffic and the financial investment has been growing steadily. Since 2009, the annual growth rate of the local financial support to public traffic reaches 3 points. In 2072, it amounts to 730 million yuan, and this year the total financial input will amount to 800 million yuan, 80% of which are for subsidies for public buses and bus upgrading.

Statistics show that the number of buses increased from 3,700 five years ago to 5,000 this year, including over 1,000 gas-fueled buses. The total length of the bus routes increased by over 700 km annually, covering all the urban and rural areas. Meanwhile, the integration of the public traffic in urban and rural areas is developing fast with the coverage rate reaching 75%, 10 points higher than the last year.

The responsible person of the Ningbo Municipal Traffic Committee said that in order that the public traffic can contribute more to the solution of the traffic jam problem, at present Ningbo is applying to the Ministry of Transport to be a pilot city in the "city of buses program". With the implement of the policy of giving priority to public traffic in the past five years, the rate of traffic by bus rose from 15% five years ago to 45%, with about half of the citizens taking buses, light-tract lines and bikes.

It is learned that according to the estimation in the plan for the city of the buses program, by 2017, Ningbo needs to put over 7 billion yuan in the construction of the infrastructural facilities for middle-level public transport, public transportation, special public bus lanes, bus stations and public bikes.
