According to a statement released by the Municipal Industry and Commerce Bureau on Monday, the city's food safety watchdog carried out sample surveys on 1,577 batches of food products in the first half of 212 and the pass rate registered 89.2 percent. Among them, 717 surveys were conducted on milk products, with a pass rate of 96.14 percent. During the first half of the year, food safety watchdog has discovered 260 food-related crimes.
The food safety sources said they would sample different types of food in different regions in each quarter. In Haishu District, they chose meat product in the first quarter and canned food in the second quarter. In Jiangdong District, they sampled ingredients in the first quarter and candies in the second quarter. During the first half of 2012, the food safety watchdog carried sample survey on 1,577 batches of food products, covering 28 types of food including beverages, wine, meat products, and candies. The overall pass rate registers 89.2 percent.
The head of 12315 hotline, China Consumers' Association complaint hotline, said that in order to achieve a complete coverage of sampling, the food safety watchdog began to step up efforts in sample survey. They sampled the 28 types of food products based on varieties, brand, and regions. "In doing so, we ensure the full coverage of the sampling varieties and avoid repetition." He added, "In the wake of several scandals over dairy products, we step up supervision on dairy products. We have listed all the brands and manufacturers of dairy products and baby milk powder, and made a sampling plan. In doing so, we ensure a dynamic and effective supervision on quality of dairy products." In the first half of this year, 717 batches of dairy products were sampled, with a pass rate of 96.14 percent.
