Artificial reefs delivered at Yushan Islands

Recently, the fish protecting fleet of Xiangshan County, under the guidance of Ningbo Marine and Fishery Bureau, delivered the eight legally collected ships to the predetermined positions of the waters of the Yushan Islands, completing the first artificial reef delivery task in 2016.
Reportedly, the fishery departments have so far delivered a total of 100 artificial reefs over the past year in five stages, forming the largest artificial reef group in Zhejiang Province with a total space of 100,000 cubic meters.
At the end of 2015, Yushan Islands waters, the "No.1 fishing area in Asia", was recognized as one of the first national marine ranch demonstrations, and the resource protection work has been strengthened since then. It is reported that the eight ships have been treated before delivery, including removing the machinery, cleaning the cabin, concrete reconstruction of the cabin, and removing the sharp poles, so that they can serve as the safe and comfortable "homes" for the fish in the waters.
According to Shentu Jikang, Senior Engineer of Ningbo Marine and Fishery Institute, the successful delivery of the 100 artificial reefs has the purpose of both developing and protecting the waters of the Yushan Islands. On the one hand, the delivery can change the course and speed of the currents, and bring the rich seabed nutrients to the upper level of the waters. On the other hand, the artificial reefs can service as homes for algae and shellfish, which can attract various kinds of fish and purify the water, and prevent the destruction by the dradge boats. "With the delivery of those artificial reefs, we can build a high-quality fishing area, so as to protect the resources of the No.1 leisure fishing farm in the east Zhejiang Province."
