Fiberglass fishing boats launched at Xiangshan Port

Recently, the first small fiberglass fishing boat in Fenghua County was put into use at a wharf of Songdai Town. It is learned from Ningbo Marine and Fishing Bureau that after over a year's promotion and improvement, by the end of this year, over 20 new fiberglass fishing boats will replace the old wooden boats at the Xiangshan Port.
It is reported that the new fiberglass fishing boat can run 40 nautical miles at the speed of eight nautical miles per hour. With the white hull and eye-catching signs, the boat has abundant work space and complete lifesaving equipment, living facilities and sewage storage equipment. "Compared with the traditional wooden boat, the new boat is advanced in safety, stability and corrosion resistance. With a saving of over 30% in fuel consumption, it has a greatly reduced maintenance cost, clear energy-saving effect and a great environment-beautifying function." said an official from Fenghua Oceanic Administration.
The development of the fiberglass fishing boats is an important part of the fishing boat transformation and upgrading. Ningbo has taken the lead in China in developing such boats. It is reported that early in 2012, Ningbo Oceanic Administration launched four small fiberglass shipping boats and has made great improvements ever since.
Statistics show that at Xiangshan Port, over 70% of the fishing boats are over 10-year old wooden boats with inadequate equipment and high energy consumption. According to a person in charge from Ningbo Oceanic Administration, the first 30 new fiberglass fishing boats will be used to replace the old boats. The fishermen can choose to buy the new boats, which are also proportionally funded by special government subsidies at the municipal level and the county level. It is hoped that the elimination of the old wooden boats and the establishment of a fleet of new environment-friendly fishing boats can help the Xiangshan Port to improve efficiency and the fishermen to improve their income.
