It's Happening....

Container throughput at Ningbo Port ranks No.1

The production briefing of Ningbo Port Co. Ltd. shows that by the afternoon of November 25, the container throughput at Ningbo Port had reached 16.915 million TEUs, surpassing the total volume of 2013, ranking No.1 among all the ports in the mainland with a year-on-yrea increase of 12%.
Since the beginning of this year, against the still gloomy condition of the shipping industry, Ningbo Port has improved rapidly in terms of shipping efficiency, loading efficiency and goods collection and distribution efficiency by giving full play to its potentials. Special activities for enterprises and economic development have been carried out, as well as the first batch of ten convenience measures, to build a better environment for port production.
"Combined internal and external development" gives momentum to the growth of container throughput. On the one hand, Ningbo Port extends its independent fleet into the hinterland of the sea, increases the amount of container transit from some northern ports and tries to attract deliveries from north Zhejiang Province and south Jiangsu Province. On the other hand, the port makes efforts to develop the markets in Jiangxi Province, the Northwest China and Xinjaing by way of the non-water ports and sea-rail intermodal transportation. By November 25, Ningbo Port has completed a sea-rail container throughput of 112,600 TEUs, up by 20.3% over the same period of last year. It is estimated that the total throughput will exceed 130,000 TEUs the whole year.
In addition, by taking advantage of the strategic opportunity of the strengthened domestic circulation, Ningbo Port deepens its cooperation with other major ports of the mainland for mutual benefits. In the first ten months, the domestic container throughput reached 1.625 million TEUs, up by 10.7% over the same period of last year. So far, the port boasts 227 container routes, including 113 ocean routes. The international transit and trans-shipment remain stable, and the accumulative water-water transit in the first ten months increases by 19.6%.
In the last month of 2014, Ningbo Port will operate at full capacity. It is estimated that the container throughput of the whole year may reach 18 million TEUs.
