It's Happening....

Construction of T2 terminal of Ningbo Lishe Airport to start in late 2014

The tarmac was enlarged, the level of the aircraft movement area was raised, and now, the international airport is being upgraded. Since 1984, Ningbo’s airport has been 30 years old. Information from the 30th anniversary says that, the construction of a T2 terminal is expected to start and it will be put into use in 2017. By that time, a high-end and fabulous terminal will appear in Ningbo airport.

A busy international airport in 5 years

Ningbo people have always been facing an awkward situation which is called Big Seaport, Small Airport. A number of airports scatter in the Yangtze River Delta, Pudong and Hongqiao in Shanghai, Zhoushan, Wenzhou, Taizhou, Hangzhou…… How will Ningbo Airport stand out in the future?

Song Jiqing, director of Ningbo Airport and the Administrative Committee of Logistics Park, brought up a concept: Happy airport, distinctive passenger transport and competitive freight transport, making efforts to make Ningbo Airport an international logistics center in the Yangtze River Delta.

In the first quarters in 2014, the passenger transport, mails and flights are 4.78 million people, 58,000 tons and 41,000 sorties, of which, the passenger transport increased by15.6%, ranking the first in 7 airports in Zhejiang Province and also on the top of over 190 airports in the world.

Xu Qiang, president of Ningbo Airport Logistics Development Group, said that, the passenger throughput of 2014 in Ningbo Airport is expected to reach 6.3 million people, and it’s expected to reach 10 million people in 5 years for the first time, which makes it one of the busiest airports in the world.

The construction of T2 terminal of 103,000 m2 starts at the end of the year.

With the growing number of passengers, people who travel a lot are unhappy about the small terminal. Currently, there is only a terminal of 43,500 m2 in the airport which doesn’t meet the need at all. But the new terminal is two and a half the size of the old one.

The design of the T2 terminal has been completed in the middle of 2013. It looks like a shell, modern, and metal roofing and glass walls are perfectly mixed together. There are four floors, three above the ground and one below the ground. The third floor is the departure floor, passengers can go through the outdoor elevated platform directly to the big broad departure hall; The second floor is the arrival entresol, passengers can go through the no-luggage passageway to the traffic center or the garage; Below the arrival floor is the ground floor which is connected to the city traffic. Line 2 of Ningbo rail transit is about to be completed by the end of next year. By then, Ningbo Airport will be the first airport connecting with the subway in Zhejiang Province.
