Consumers spent 47 million yuan in New Year Shopping Fair

The 25th Ningbo New Year Shopping Fair organized by the Municipal Trade Bureau concluded last Sunday. Statistics show local consumers spent 47 million yuan during the 8-day shopping fair, up by 6.8 percent over the previous one.

The shopping fair this year featured a combination of shopping with traditional folk culture. Renowned local food manufactures participated in the fair for the first time. Besides selling their recipes, they staged shows of making cakes and snacks, adding local and cultural color to the event.

Sellers of sea food, pork, and vegetables offered discount prices. Crabs were sold at 60 yuan per kilogram, 30 percent lower than the previous fair. Lamb from Inner Mongolia was sold at 59 yuan per kilogram. Cold-processed chicken was sold at 14 yuan per kilogram and an average of nearly 800 chickens were sold each day. Cixi Zhihai Cooperative sold an average of 5,000 kg cabbage at the price of 0.7 yuan per kilogram. Vegetable Wholesale Market also sold cabbage, kohlrabi and other vegetables at wholesale prices, which attracted many shoppers.

The shopping fair this year also cooperated with major local food retailers and launched its online program. The online fair presented over 1,000 categories, or nearly 10,000 items of food products at heavy discounts. The turnover during the eight days surpassed two million yuan, which double the figure provided last fair.
