748 Drug-Related Cases Solved in 2014

In 2014, public security forces in Ningbo solved altogether 748 drug-related cases with 8 of them followed by the Ministry of Public Security and 18 closed watched by Zhejiang Public Security Department. These security organs recorded 16.1% rise in the number of drug addicts arrested, which stood at 9,408 this year. In so doing, progress has been made to combat drug-related cases in Ningbo in ways that help contain the number of drug users and dealers, according to the Anti-Drug Detachment of Ningbo Public Security Bureau. Such positive developments came a few days before the arrival of the 28th International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on June 26th, 2015.

The anti-drug campaign, which was ongoing from October 2014 to March 2015, was committed to combating drug cases on a large scale that reflect local realities. Police forces were armed to teeth by deploying possible resources, including security officers, criminal investigators, special forces, anti-drug forces and local police. They started the drive from cracking down on illegal drug dealers in key regions such as recreational centers, small and medium-sized hotels. The effort was so thorough that we became the best player in combating illicit drug cases in Zhejiang as we captured 1,818 suspects and seized 121.6 kilograms of drugs in 34 cases of provincial attention and in 18 cases of national endeavor. Ningbo was recognized by the Ministry of Public Security and Zhejiang Public Security Department owing to the successful crackdown upon two major cases concerning narcotics. Instructions were made by a number of leaders, including Liu Qi, Secretary of CPC Committee and Lu Ziyue, mayor of Ningbo and deputy secretary of CPC Committee.

 

On the part of publicizing the hazards of doping, different units across the city have educated the public on how to prevent drug using, thus making the general public understand more in this regard. They give priority to students, “problem” youths, drivers and migrant workers when publicizing the danger of drugs. These organs boasted Drug Control Lecture, public service films on clamping down on drugs, and year-round public service advertisements on Ningbo TV and public transportation among other campaigns. Ningbo has recruited more than 400 community workers dedicated to combating drugs with better facilities, salaries, management and over skills. Productive results were made in assisting police solve cases.

According to people in charge of the detachment, synthetic drugs represented by Methamphetamine have been cancerous despite strong pressure from Public Security Department. This means that our drive is challenged by fact that drug dealings happen through the Internet fueled by increasing number of floating population engaged in drug taking and dealing. To tackle the problem, security officials will remain committed to addressing the root causes behind the cancer with the toughest stance and measures possible under the guidance of leadership in public security. They hope to join forces with the public to wrestle with the problem while staying responsibility-specific. They also promise to make anti-drug campaign more effective by Internet monitoring. Efforts have also been made to identify productive measures for rehabilitation, press ahead with the Ningbo Model for rehabilitation in ways that help treat addiction, provide instructions and related services.
