The first global industrial venture competition in China will be held in Ningbo on August 28. After the four preliminary games in Shanghai, Shenzhen, Beijing and the Silicon Valley of the USA, 60 distinctive venture projects in the new materials industry will take part in the final game to be held at Ningbo New Materials & Technology Zone. It is hoped that a group of promising new materials projects can be selected and settle down in Ningbo for incubation.
The venture competition (also known as “Dark Horse Contest”), sponsored by the magazine “Founder”, is so far the largest investment and financing contest for innovative and growing enterprises in China, as well as a platform of growth, exhibition and trade for innovative enterprises. In the past three sessions, the competition has helped 348 enterprises in financing, with a total financing value of 11.286 billion yuan, accounting for more than 10% of the venture capital market in China. As the national “achievement
industrialization base for new materials industry”, Ningbo has an amiable environment for the development of new materials industry, thus the holding of the competition for new materials industry in the city.
According to Lin Wei, Executive Director of the organizing committee of the competition, and General Manager of the Development and Investment Co. Ltd. of Ningbo New Materials & Technology Zone, the “Dark Horse Contest” will help to select a group of proper new materials projects to settle down in Ningbo. Reportedly, the roadshow projects of the contest cover all kinds of application of new materials in industries, ranging from the filter material for purifying water and surface treatment for clothes to the advanced 3D printing and high-speed trains.
Jin Hui, also Executive Director of the organizing committee and General Manager of Zhejiang Branch of “Founder”, said on August 26 that next to Beijing, Wuhan and the Silicon Valley, Ningbo would establish the global roadshow center for the “Dark Horse Contest”, showing that Ningbo would rank high among all the cities with venture capital platforms in China.
