Ningbo takes various ways to ensure food safety

Ningbo will build a safety traceability system of wholesale meat and vegetables that cover all the 100 circulation nodes in all the 9 types of vegetable markets and standard vegetable markets. According to the meeting on the vegetable basket project, apart from adequate supply in the market, in 2013 Ningbo will take various measures to ensure the food safety for the public health of the citizens.
The control of the circulation of meat and vegetables is an important part for the food safety. From 2011, Ningbo took the lead in China to construction the food safety traceability system. So far the system has covered over 200 circulation nodes. In 2013, Ningbo Municipal Government takes the construction of the traceability system as one of the serving-the-people programs. It will have the food safety traceability system cover 100 circulation nodes in the live pig butchering factories, wholesale vegetable markets, supermarkets, vegetable logistic companies, and municipal-level food basket bases.
Related statistics show that in 2012 the city made persistent pesticide tests of 109 samples of vegetables, and the acceptance rate reaches 99.6%. It made clenobuterol hydrochloride tests of 24,000 samples of live pigs, and the acceptance rate reaches 99.9%. After the "100 day meat safety program" organized by Zhejiang Provincial Government, the rate of designated butchering in urban areas reaches 100%. The rate in rural area reaches 95%.
