Ningbo Municipal CPPCC Works to Improve Livlihood

How to meet people’s subsistence needs? What concerns people most in their daily life? What makes their life difficult? People’s livelihood remains top on the agenda of the CPPCC members.

Putting people first, Ningbo CPPCC seeks to provide support for addressing people’s concerns. In 2015, the authorities worked hard to respond to hotspot issues and difficult problems arising from livelihood through holding monthly talks, special consultations and case handlings. CPPCC members adopted targeted measures to address hotspot issues after talking in-depth with those responsible for their respective areas for eleven times. The issues included much-anticipated renovations of run-down areas, rural water treatment, special taskforce building, quality and safety of agricultural products, garbage classification, property management, delayed pay, management of intermediary organizations. The members conducted in-depth studies before raising targeted, valuable and pragmatic suggestions. What they have achieved has been well appreciated. The monthly dialogue enabled CPPCC to report suggestions eleven times, of which over 80 pieces of advice have been embraced. This commendable move has translated into a strong driver for improving people’s lives.

The advisory body also offered 67 inputs after conducting studies concerning how to reform the rural land rotation mechanism, how to give play to intermediary organizations and how to protect Great Canal relics. The CPPCC also worked hard to meet the needs of the people in a more targeted manner. In 2015, more than 100 people enjoyed free access to medical care. Rations and facilities worth 63,000 yuan were given away and over 360 books were distributed. All the work was well received by people on the street.

By proposing more focus on people’s wellbeing, China Democratic League Ningbo Municipal Commission put forward suggestions to further treat water pollutions in rural areas; the CPPCC also offered suggestions to provide more jobs to the disabled. All the latest developments are closely linked to people’s lives. In carrying out projects designed to deliver people better lives, the Ningbo municipal government had solicited inputs from the CPPCC and its members. A host of issues have been mainstreamed into the government’s effort to deliver tangible benefits for the people. They included renovations of dilapidated houses, air pollution treatment, transportation, education, health, elderly care, among other issues. All parties concerned did their share of contributions to ensuring all the 42 projects were completed last year.
