Five Urban Water Plants Implemented 106 Quality Tests

Five urban water plants started to implement 106 quality tests on July 1, signifying that safer drinking water is to be provided for the citizens.
It was learned that the new national Sanitary Standard for Drinking Water was implemented from July 1. According to the new standard, water tests increased from 35 to 106. The urban water management sector of Ningbo carried out detailed enforcement regulations for the new standard last year and purchased advanced testing instruments and organized staff training to ensure a safe drinking water for the residents. From July 1, all the urban water plants would implement the new standard strictly. At present, five water plants including Dongqian Lake Water Plant, Maojiaping Water Plant, Beilun Water Plant, Jiangdong Water Plant and Nanjiao Water Plant has reached the requirement of the 106 tests.
According to Wang Yifen, head of Ningbo monitoring station of national urban water quality monitoring website, testing indexes related to people’s health increased from 20 to 86 and those related to toxic components increased from 15 to 74 in accordance to the new standard. Many testing indexes for pesticide were added. In addition, Ningbo was one of the four cites of Zhejiang Province having the ability to test the two worms which were the main pathogens to cause epidemic diseases.
In order to prevent secondary pollution in the process of pipe-line transportation, a certain amount of disinfectant was required to reserve and more tests would be conducted in all links of water supply. Last year, 2 large water tests were carried out in June and October. At present, 5 urban water plants reached the requirement and ranked the front row in the country.
It was learned that the standard was applicable both to urban and rural areas. In order to synchronize the implementation of the standard, the urban water management sector of Ningbo would not only keep pushing forward the integration of urban and rural water supply, but also urge small water plants for technological innovation and test water samples from all the water plants.
