Domestic garbage classification and treatment to be promoted

On the morning of December 25, Ningbo Municipal Government meeting approved the "implementation plan (2013-2017) for domestic garbage classification-based treatment and recycling".
In recent years, with the acceleration of urbanization, the amount of domestic garbage has been growing in the central areas, with the annual growth rate of 4.11% from 2007 to 2011. In the first 11 months this year, the daily amount of domestic garbage in central areas reached 3862 tons, posing great pressure for treatment and classification.
According to the plan, by 2017, Ningbo will take the lead in China in terms of the level of domestic garbage disposal and recycling, with the classification coverage of 50%, recycling rate of 5% and per capita reduction rate of 15%.
It is said that from July 2013 to the end of the year, garbage classification demonstration will be carried out in all the communities in Baiyun Street of Haishu District, Baizhang Street of Jiangdong District and Wenjiao Street of Jiangbei District, as well as such organizations as market fairs and schools in Haishu District, Jiangdong District, Jiangbei District and Yinzhou District. From 2014 to 2017, the practice will be promoted in the whole city.
The implementation plan points out that the domestic garbage will be put into four categories: recyclable waste, kitchen waste, hazardous garbage and other waste; the garbage from institutions and enterprises also falls into four categories: recyclable waste, food waste, hazardous waste and other waste; while the garbage in the public places can be divided into recyclable waste and other waste.
