Ningbo Port's food imports grow 19%

Customs statistics show that the total import of wine, olive oil, beer, and natural honey from January to October in Ningbo Port amounted to US$ 52,912,000, an increase of 19 percent over the same period last year. The food imports in October alone hit US$ 4,234,000, an increase of 29.6 percent year-on-year.

According to statistics released by Ningbo Customs, the city has imported 9.636 million liters of wine, worth US$ 47,598,000, a year-on-year increase of 6.8 percent and 13.9 percent, respectively. The average import price of wine stood at US$ 4.9 / L, up 6.6 percent over the same period last year. It imported 1086.3 tons of olive oil, worth US$ 4,546,000, a year-on-year increase of 86.9 percent and 95.1 percent, respectively. The average import price stood at US$ 4,185 / ton, up 4.4 percent year-on-year. The city imported 564,000 liters of beer, worth US$ 768,000, a year-on-year increase of 36.7 percent and 1.4 times. The average import price stood at US$ 13.6 / liter, up 79 percent year-on-year. The city imported 16.1 tonnes of natural honey, valued at US$ 150,000, a year-on-year increase of 7.4 times and 2.6 times, respectively, and the average import price stood at 9.3 USD / kg, up 56.4 percent year-on-year.

Currently, the food importation in Ningbo Port is dominated by wine, in addition to olive oil, natural honey, and beer. Moreover, the ongoing 2012 China Food Expo in Ningbo will further lead to the rapid growth of food imports in Ningbo.
