Ningbo Development Zone to be built as national eco-industrial Demonstration Park

Recently, Ningbo Economic and Technological Development Zone has been approved as a national eco-industrial Demonstration Park by the Ministry of Environmental Protection, the Ministry of Trade and the Ministry of Science and Technology, the first of its kind in Zhejiang Province.
Since 2010, with the focus on industrial transformation and upgrading and development of circular economy, the development zone has strengthened the work of energy conservation and emission reduction and comprehensively promoted the construction of the eco-industrial demonstration park, achieving the harmonious development of the port industries and the ecology of the zone. From 2010 to 2013, the GDP of the development zone increased from 46.89 billion yuan to 68.6 billion yuan, while the comprehensive energy consumption, fresh water consumption, COD emission and sulfur dioxide emission of per unit industrial added value decreased respectively by 14.5%, 26.6%, 43.9% and 34%.
During the construction period, the development zone has optimized its layout, promoted the transformation from the industry-oriented zone to the comprehensive urban zone with both living and producing functions, and enhanced its urban functions. Besides, it has accelerated the structural adjustment, actively cultivated leading port industries and supported high-end industries and sped up the development of the port eco-service industry.
In the meanwhile, the zone makes efforts to guarantee the healthy development of economy from three aspects. Firstly, it implements the 24-hour online network management of the major pollutants and major pollution treatment of 70 odd major enterprises. In the past three years, it has filed 69 environmental illegal cases. Secondly, to realize the low-carbon construction, it has resolved the energy consumption problem of the enterprises that account for over 70% of the zone's energy consumption, promoted 95 energy saving technological reform projects and saved 195,000 tons of standard coal. Thirdly, it has invested 130 million yuan in the construction of the environmental emergency system and greatly improved its ability for emergency prevention and control.
By building the three platforms for technological support, emission reduction treatment and resource integration, the zone endeavors to develop the green economy. In 2012, it took the lead in starting the three special treatment campaigns in the electroplating industry, the printing and dyeing industry and the elimination of high polluting fuel boilers, and completed 54 port industrial waste gas treatment projects and 21 chemical waste gas treatment projects. In 2013, the high-tech industrial value of the development zone reached 81.93 billion yuan, up by 10.9% over the previous year, taking the lead in Ningbo in terms of high-tech industrial output value and its proportion for the fourth consecutive year
