First Attempt at Vacuum Technology in Addressing Pollution in Jiangbei Villages

"It’s been many years since we have seen such clean rivers and ditches, and this summer will be free of bad smells." On April 12, in the Fanlitang Village, Yongjiang Street of Jiangbei District, the village director Zheng Changhai said smilingly that we take the lead as early adopters of high-speed rail vacuum technology on rural wastes collection, a great thing for the villagers from the government's livelihood projects.

Jiangbei District has actively carried out pilot projects of new technologies, which has seen initial results in rural sewage treatment. Since the implementation of the Water Treatment Campaign in Five areas, the district has developed a three-year action plan in the area of rural sewage treatment and has now completed sewage treatment of three villages, benefiting2906 farmers, building sewage pipe network of 74,548 meters. The vacuum collection and treatment of sewage system Farm located in the village is one of the highlights of the project.

Located in urban-rural interface, Fanlitang Village has limited sanitation facilities. There are originally simple pipe network for sewage collection, but they are mainly placed on several main roads within the village with relatively limited access to households. As a result, many households even directly pour sewage into the river and ditch surrounding the village. Every summer, the river stank, mosquitoes flying.

Nanche Times Sensor Technology Company Ltd in Yongjiang Street centers on the production of sensors and shield gates for trains, subway platforms and designs for car, high-speed train, etc. After the responsible persons participate in the meeting of the Water Treatment Campaign in Five areas, the idea that the technology used in trains can be applied to pollution treatment popped up in his mind.

As the village has a large population and narrow roads, Nanche Times invited a professor from Ningbo University to co-design effective governance programs. After several visits, routes survey and household survey, they have identified more than 300 spots for each household sewage disposal. Under active promotion of Yongjiang street, the village kick-started the sewage treatment project in September 2014, and was put into trial before the Spring Festival in 2015. Effective results were achieved after two months, delivering benefits for thousands.

Today, households wastes flow into the vacuum station through the network buried underground, and then flow out clean water. Xu Guoping, villager, said:” water in the ditch is obviously clean, we have to admit it’s very impressive. We have benefited it from the government.” It is said that the project registered a total of 28 million yuan, bankrolled by the district, streets and Nanche Times.

"Vacuum technology is best suited when it is applied to more complex mountainous terrain of the village, in April it will be promoted in Yinzhou District." People concerned in the company say that the new way of treatment is different from the traditional rural sewage treatment, the former, first, being able to prevent leakage to avoid two second-time pollution, and second, being small in diameter, freedom from the terrain restrictions, easy installment of pipe network, and good economic performance. "After receiving waste water, we can start the purification treatment through the transfer station, water out of which can meet the national emission standards."
